10mm choices...

I've owned/own several 10mm over the yrs.

I am a 1911 fan so a bit biased.

After building/shooting a few different 1911 10mm guns....a Longslide 1911 is THE way to go.
A comped 5in gun is also very good but wasting the blast out of a comp is silly when a longer barrel makes use of the energy...
The extra balance and muzzle forward weight of a longslide calms recoil/muzzle flip as well as settles the entire cycling process down...the bonus of extra velocity is nice too.

My next 10mm WILL be an adj sighted longslide...its a no brainer.

Another great option is a 10mm wheel gun....a ~6in SW would make an awesome 10mm platform...I haven't owned/shot one but am sure it would be a great go.

I have handled/shot the Witness 10mm....its a nice gun, great quality and accurate all steel gun.

I feel the same about big bore Glocks as you tho....too big and blocky and the funky Glock trigger....no go for this guy.

I have owned a lot of 10mm's in the past also. From glocks to sigs to colts. My overall thoughts is I persknally like a 1911 in 5", i warry one for wildrrness protection. Its a custom one built by myself with premium parts, my next one will be a shortened one with a comp in a 5" full profile for weight and muzzle reduction. Got to love 185 grain bullets going over 1150 fps.

Surprised you would want to go with a comp on a carry gun?
IF I was fortunate enough to be able to carry....insert envious grin here.....I would think a bull barrel 5in stainless 1911 would be perfect....keep all that precious energy behind the bullet for as long as possible.....and the muzzle flash to the shooter must be nasty/blinding...especially in low light with a comp??
I know the muzzle flash without a comp on a 5in full house 10mm is already pretty spectacular.

BTW...I've conversed with Madcow previously ....he is knowledgeable and experienced with 10mm guns

I think that both the RIA Rock and Tac series guns, at least the recent ones, have bull barrels. The internet suggests the TAC is fully supported, but I'm not sure of the other.

Price aside, I have no use for a rail, and the extended dust cover just gets in the way of disassembling a pistol with a FLGR anyway.

I don't like a lot of weight up front in a pistol. For example I find my 5" P220 to be somewhat heavy in the muzzle and I sold off my 6" Smith 686 because I plain didn't like the balance. I shoot strong hand only, which makes a long barrel more difficult to stabilize for a string without drooping.

i know you said you dont like the big Glocks but i thought i would chime in for a sec.
i was like you and was wanting a 10mm for a while and had looked around at a couple different ones.
i ended up narrowing down to the Grand Power, RIA 1911 in 10mm, Colt Delta Elite and the new Glock G40 longslide monster.

i ended up going with the Glock G40 because i got a hell of a deal on a factory new one.

im not gonna lie, im not a Glock fan boy but i do have a couple but wow do i like that damn G40!
its a monster but it shoots so soft!

maybe dont rule out one of those until you get a chance to shoot one.
with the price of glocks taking a massive drop over the last month or so i think you can pick those up for under $1000 (if you can find them).

if i hadnt gotten the good deal on that Glock was gonna pull the trigger on the RIA 10mm.
the 1911 platform lends itself to those hard hitting big rounds pretty damn nice.
and the single stack keeps the size of the grip manageable for those of us without baseball mitts for hands.

STI nitro 10 comes to mind
Factory bull barrel to top it off, having a 40SW barrel fitted is cheap and easy, same mags and gun, 2 calibers

I've never tried negotiating on a new gun. Worth a shot. Epps has a 220 listed. They're the only vendor that I've found one at..

I've found most are willing to entertain reasonable offers. If you're looking for 25% off I'm sure they'll tell you to take a hike but taxes in & free shipping for listed price I've been able to get more often than not.

Totally agree.

Get something that can shoot 40S&W and 10mm ;) Took me a while to track down this S&W 610, it's a lot of fun!

I had a gen 4 Glock in 45ACP.

I sold it because I didn't like the girth of the grip. The 9mm versions are ok for me, but I like a gun to fit inside my hand rather than have my hand wrap around it.

The flat sides and the long front to back dimension killed it.

Same with the CZ-75 - it's my favourite pistol, but if you put those flat slabby aluminum grips on it I hate it.

The big glock is fine in a 2 handed grip, but that's not how I shoot.

I have only swapped the barrel. I know that the ejector is the same for both G21 and G20 models. Extractors are different, so my brass flies out less consistently in the same direction than then when I am shooting .45 as intended from the G21. But it always comes out.
One more detail, cause it is not the barrel alone, you need the right magazines as well.

Thanks - I've got a G21SF, an aftermarket lone wolf 10mm barrel and a bunch of G20 mags, but never tried firing 10mm as it recommends changing the extractor. Guess now I'll have to give it a go as is:d

Absolutetly :)
P.S. Mine is a G21SF as well. I have the IGB 10mm conversion barrel and use G20 mags.

Got a new wrinkle.

I know a gent who has a Dan Wesson 1911 upper in 10mm

I have a Springfield Range Officer in 9mm coming.

Would a 10mm upper work with the 9mm lower so far as feeding and ejection goes?

I'm guessing it would NOT work with a 45 frame without modification...

I know I'm also assuming that the slide and frame mates acceptably. I don't want to make permanent changes to the frame either.
