10mm semi auto

i hope this thread spins wildly off topic into a bear defense, calibre war, where it drags on for a month or two, until it has to get locked because some guys insults another guys momma. that would rock.:onCrack:

thread spin ??

hey man boy
thanks for your positive input.
i have been involved in the shooting sports for over 35 years. starting this thread was an honest attempt at trying to learn more before making a purchase. some of the people that i have dealt with here are fine, intelligent and honest people. i hope that i get a chance to meet more of them.
and then there are the others...
i guess that what i have to say is the same thing that i keep trying to get through to the teenagers in my house. if you don't have anything good to say then don't bother.
maybe post count means more than anything else but i doubt it..

To digress but still stay on the 10mm theme.... get a Colt Delta Elite...

I'm kind of looking for a 10mm right now too. I have a witness in 45 and love it great gun so far I've heard good things about the Tangfolio. Digressing a bit ther is a Smith and Wesson 10mm 1006 for sale on EE i think?
Also what problems did the Delta Elite have I've always wanted one, but if there problematic I might go for the Tangfolio.
Thanks
Sosa

Tangfolio' are nice...Had a S&W 1006..no complaints...
But, my choice was, and remains, a Glock 20.
Yeah, it's a big gun, but it's anvil reliable and is a hoot to shoot with max loads!
(By the way, I actually have a Glock 21(45ACP) and simply drop in a KKK match barrel in 10MM..a simple change out of barrel and mags..,,
VOILA!...Two (great calibre!) guns in one!

ANY 10mm is a good one.

Sosa, I have a S&W 1006.

Excellent pistol, reliable, nice looking, bullet-proof.

Downside is trigger(6-7 lbs SA) and forget DA(as someone once said...like dragging a brick down a dirt road) .

The S&W is still a good gun, but if accuracy is your forte I would go for a 1911 version.

Dan Wesson makes new 10mm's.

Colt Delta's are also pretty popular.

lol. ok i'll say something positive, at the risk if starting a 1911 vs. glock thread:D if you have to have a 10mm, buy a Glock. i've shot 10mm on the 1911 platform, and 10mm on the glock platform, and it is much nicer to shoot on plastic. softer recoil, faster follow up shots, and rugged as hell.

ymmv of course.

Geez, what's with all the 'x vs y' type threads? They're not mutually exclusive; Simple solution: get both :D

Or, more pragmatically, go, try both. Get whichever one fits better. A pretty gun is useless if it doesn't fit your hands well and you can't shoot it worth a crap.

Delta elites had a history of cracking. Thats why its best to get a heavier recoil spring, a buffer, and possibly a guide rod to fix the problem. Thats the consensus on the 1911 forums.

I think it was the early Delta's that had that problem. I think the frame was beefed up on the later models.

If I were to get another 10mm right now it would probably be a Dan Wesson or Kimber Eclipse.

Too bad STI stopped making them.

I wouldnt chance any delta. They arent in production anymore and a heavy spring from wolff isnt expensive, neither is a guide rod.

Once thats fixed though I am sure they are great guns.

I've had a couple of Colt Deltas... and no 'problems' to date. The early Deltas had a problem with frame cracks on the small bridge on the frame in the relief for the slide stop due to the high pressure ammo and subsequent slamming of the slide on the frame. On subsequent versions of the pistol that small bridge of metal was removed. I agree that the Delta does better with a stronger recoil spring and the buffers on the recoil spring quide. A full length guide rod isn't a bad idea, either. [I favour them on my 1911's anyway].

BTW, I also once owned a S&W 1066 10mm, which was the limited edition 1 of 5,000 stainless steel model with factory nite sites. That was a very nice 10mm too & I wish I'd kept her.

My only 10mm now is another Colt Delta. I'm happy with it & plan on keeping this one this time. I've also acquired a Colt factory .38 Super barrel for it & plan in time to add a .40 S&W barrel, too.

I've got a Delta. It won't cycle anything light weight, and loves the hot loads. Box stock except for the ambi safety. And no, I don't plan on changing that any time soon. And if you get a 10mm, ANY 10mm, plan on reloading. Ammo ain't cheap.
