10rd+ AR mags

All arguements aside, is it just me, or does that beowulf round look badass in the ar mag? I'm going to have to try one of those...

I'll tell you what's badass: the weight and feel of having 18 rounds of 5.56mm in my non-restricted Tavor. ;)

So can we at least buy 5 round .50 Beowolf rifle mags yet?

Yes, as mentioned (Armtac.com). Get an order in sooner as opposed to later - I believe there's already over 300 people queued up.

What mags allow 13 or 15 rounds of .223? The 7.62x39 XCR 10 rounder? I thought it didn't work reliably and vomited .223 rounds half way through?

This discussion is regarding the fact that .50 Beowulf magazines have been discovered to feed .223 round effectively in the AR platform. This means that between 12 and 18 rounds of .223 can be loaded in the Beowulf magazine when it is pinned for 5 rounds of .50 Beowulf. The reason for the discrepancy between 12-18 rounds depends on how it is pinned, if its a tight 5 rounds, then only 12 .223 fit. If its a pin at just shy of 6 rounds of .50 Beowulf, then apparently up to 18 rounds of .223 can fit. I'm well into the back order list for a magazine myself, so we'll wait and see in months when my order is able to be filled. If it works as advertised, I'll be buying more mags, and likely looking carefully at a Beowulf upper as well. It is apparently an extraordinarily effective round at short ranges for hunting or other activities.

What will apply to any future ruling is the decision on the SW M&P 15-22, which defined "dual-use" magazines - and where the capacity has defaulted to the lesser of the two in instances where a magazine was manufactured for use in both rifle and pistol versions.

As it now stands, even if AA were to introduce a pistol version of the .50 Beowulf - they would need to introduce a completely new and unique pistol magazine (highly unlikely).

But in answer to your question, yes. If RobArms (or any other manufacturer) developed a specific .50 Beowulf pistol and a unique 10-round pistol magazine, and marketed/advertised it specifically (and only) for the pistol - I think it has a reasonable shot.

I think it's important to recognize that we're in unknown territory. The increase from 5 to 10 to 13 to 15 and now 18 probably hasn't gone over well in some circles, and I think it might not be a bad idea to let sleeping dogs lie as opposed to awakening the dragon.

Wise words. But I'm a greedy person ;)

Robinson Arms XCR 7.62x39 pistol mags:
Confirmed 7.62x39 capacity - 10rds max, will seat on a closed bolt.
Confirmed 5.56mm capacity - 13rds max, won't seat on a closed bolt.
Confirmed 6.8SPC capacity - 11rds max, will seat on a closed bolt.
Feeding issues - feeding issues reported on .223 where rounds fit loosely in mag, and last few rounds 'jump out' (only fix is a modified 5.56 follower). No feeding issues reported with 6.8SPC.
Notes - using an aftermarket base plate (such as a Magpul Ranger plate) will reduce the capacity by one for any calibre. These are ideal for bench-shooting.
Construction - metal only.

Thank you very much Blaxsun, you rock!

May we see this vid. Of course we are all interested in getting are gruby little hands on these (despite the back order). I would also love to see a vid of some loading, unloading and shooting from the .50 mag (with .223 of course). This is the answer we have all been looking for

I think we need to stop discussing this topic online and enjoy our freedom.....a mag borrowed/bought, a few minutes at the range and everyone can figure out the answer...just sayin ;)

How many 7.62x39 would a .50 mag hold? Function?

I'm debating a 5.56 or 7.62 CSA VZ58, would add the mag adapter too if I can get some "reasonable" capacity mags :)

I'd prefer 7.62x39 for the ammo cost savings. But a 10+ capacity is tempting. ;)

here is a video of 223 being shot out of a 50 beowulf mag for those of you who are interested. the 233 starts around 1:20

So would a .50Beowulf XCR pistol with supporting purpose built magazine actually convince you to show Robarms some love? At least temporarily? :p

AR15 pistols aready exist. All you have to do is throw a .50 Beowulf upper on an AR15 pistol and presto you can put 10 rd proprietary mags for that calibre into the firearm. The ONLY catch is that the magazine has to be build and labelled as being a pistol magazine. I just confirmed this with an RCMP technician an hour ago.
