11-87 one shot!

i have rem semi 11-87 premier with vent rib 2 3/4 barrel cut off to 21 1/2 but i can't shoot low load
the barrel band have two gas port
not enough gas for cycle itself ? 3'' receiver?
wrong barrel? how to know if the barrel is not a 1100?
any idea?

The gas ports are probably too small and need to be opened up a tad.

At some point the barrel gets too short to allow sufficient gas to build up behind the shot column and be directed to function the action, it's a time and distance thing in my opinion.

ok but a cgn mate sell a 1100 2 3/4 on E.E with 18.5 barrel and work perfect with low road

why don't we start with the simple stuff first.

clean it and replace the "O" ring and see what happens before we start drilling out holes and stuff.

I had a barrel that was cut to the same length and it shot perfectly with light loads.

The barrel was chopped and it's now 4 1/2 to 8 1/2 inches shorter and there isn't enough gas volume to cycle the action, hence the need for a larger gas port.

clean it, replace the o ring, clean and degrease the action spring in the stock and reoil, clean the action spring tube with a small wire brush on an extension bar,take a #47 size drill bit in a pair of pliers and clean out the gas ports, clean the gas rings and polish with a dremmel with a small wire brush. lightly oil everything. the problem with the 1100 and 11-87 is usually CRUD. as some one said, start with the simple things
