11-87 SP DEER GUN any good?????

11-87 is a decent autoloader, but it is gas operated. By no means in the same leagure as Benelli, etc, IMHO.

SP means special purpose which has to do with the finish of the metal and wood, or a SPS means it has synthetic furniture.

I used one for duck hunting and it works great. Im sure if you wanted to use it with buck shot or slugs it would be alright. Personally, in Ontario, I prefer a rifle. It would be in your best interest to invest in a decent rifle. More accurate, allowed to hold more shots (for hunting purposes), and depending on the gun, a quicker reload.

I have two. one with the 21" cantileaver fully rifled barrel and the other with a smooth bore cantileaver. Both work flawlessly and have accounted for many dead deer. So far I have accounted for numerous "doubles" with our gang which in two of the three cases was all about speed and accuracy of each shot. Now the 21" barrel isn't optimal nor is the 1 in 35" ROT for the newer "super sabots" but it holds its own out to about 125 yards. People will tell you all the bad things that happen to gas operated autoloaders...well what they forget to mention is that if you do your bit and keep the bastards reasonably clean, you won't have any troubles at all! The 11-87 in my books gets two thumbs up. Now as much as Redd likes to #### on Remingtons....seems like mine has performed extremely well and I'm sure he can't say much about that.....stay tuned ..lets see!

Three of us bought brand new 11-87's. Two worked, mine kept jamming, while expelling spent shell or feeding next shell. Sent back to Remington repair depot and local shop tried to fix it without any luck. Took it back for another brand new 11-87. This one shot 1 foot to right at 40 yards. Sent back to Ontario Remmington depot and got fixed gun back, but I was unable to slide barrel back onto magazine which was over bent and now was out of round. Gun was sent back to Remington repair depot in New Brunswick for repairs again. The gun was fixed and we all sold our 11-87's. This is my own experience with a 11-87 and I will never own another.

Is the SP Deer the same as the new "Sportsman " models or are they different? I equate the Sportsman models to be similar to the Express pump guns, is the SP Deer the same lower quality guns or are they higher quality?
I am trying to avoid the auto version of the Express at all costs.
