I ran a search on this board and couldn'd find anything.

I'm looking to see if I can get a vertical foregrip for my 11-87 and haven't been able to find anything. I've tried the sponsors of this site, Brownells, and a few other places. Nothing. Haven't found anything with even a picatinny rail system.

Does such a piece exist and if so any idea where I'd find it? The only thing I can think of is purchase a normal foregrip and drill a couple holes, attach a picatinny rail and try to create a makeshift rail system.

i suppose you could inlet a 4-5" picatinny rail into your foreend and buy any of the aftermarket rail-mountable foregrips. i did that on an old biathlon rifle so i could attach a rail-mountable bipod. the benefit of this is that if you decide you dont like the foregrip, youre just left with a short rail inlet into the bottom of your foreend, which can be used for other rail-mountable things like flashlight mounts & sling swivels.

why would you want to do such a thing though?

Ya that's kind of what I was thinking as a last resort.

As fas as why, I'm interested to see if I can handle the shotgun any better with one. Vertical foregrips have made a huge difference in the way I can handle rifles. I tried one on an 870 and it seemed like it would take some getting used to. I find that I can handle the recoil and such pretty well so figured to give it a try. Worst case scenario is that it doesn't work and I'm a few dollars out of pocket.

and possibly a ruined shotgun?

do you have a pump to use as a guinea pig? if you have an 870 or 500 then its just a matter of a $30 forend that can accept any rail-mountable foregrip - and if you decide you dont like it youll get most of your money back from the EE and no guns were harmed in the process :D

I've tried it with an 870 and though it took some getting used to the kick and handle, I got the increased control that I was seeking.

I have no intention of drilling and tapping the foregrip of my existing 11-87. The plan was to buy an additional foregrip and do some trial and error on it. That way it's just the $30 foregrip as you mentioned. When you mentioned a ruined shotgun, have you seen instances where the firearms themselves have been damaged by trying to modify them this way?

i had no idea they were so cheap - by ruined shotgun i meant most people arent going to want a foregrip on their 11-87 if you try and sell :)

in that case yeah, go for it. you can get rails like this on ebay for around $10:

not sure how much clearance you have inside the gun at the bottom of your forend. you could measure it with a caliper i - on my semi-auto 12ga its pretty much just a mm or so, and the forend is very thin so attaching the rail securely would be quite difficult.

We'll see if it works should it come to that. I'll still look around for a while to see if I can find a commercially made forend.
