#11 Percussion Cap Maker

Musket cap maker would be nice:)

Yes, that's the one that it is really needed. Musket caps are not readily available in our Cabela's big-box gun store world now.
Also, apparently the ones available from CCI are not as powerful as needed, being down-loaded for reenactors so that they do not split and spit fragments.

That's great; and really you ought to be able to use cap gun caps for priming compound, just need to form the cups. I've thought of turning something in the lathe but I only ever have about 15 minutes of free time/day and so many other priorities for it.

Thanks for the link!!

So, the tool makes an aluminium cup and you buy a paste that provides the ignition? If so, the story is whether the paste is any good; readily available, and has a shelf life, no?

Yes it makes a cap and you add the primer compound using their powder solution, or by yourself with caps or match heads.

Here in Merry Old all we get are the RWS musket caps. They sure do blow the cr*p out of a barrel all by themselves. Highly recommended, but then, there isn't anything else.....

Ordered one, and priming compound... so lets see.
And what is the deal with using match heads? How does that work? Squeeze them in as whole, or resolve them in alcohol, water, etc. to put the soup in the cap to dry?

at the price for caps I don't see the logic in making them from beer cans.

We run out of them locally often enough that it would be nice to have a quick stop-gap solution. Nowhere near a major city.

You can simply use caps from kids' paper cap guns, use a single hole punch to speed up the center removal....see I've tried this but not with a proper "cap maker". I think I'll order one of these too, but if you can get the priming compound across the border (let us know), well "bonus"

they're often hard to find at stores. also some people just like to make their own equipment. the same reason you see people making their own ammo, you can buy it, but some like making their own stuff.
