New precision on savage website..... quite annoyed since I have been waiting for that rifle for a long time and now I just will have to pass.

300 win version will look like the 308 win version, not the 338 version...

I'm quite pissed. I though it was going to be 5-6 rounds, heavy and with a brake just like their 338 lapua version.

Why didn't they make it like the 338???

Now, should I get a 110BA, 300 win, or just dump 300 win and get a 338 lapua and reload?
(pisses me off since I have 200 brass and dies, but oh well...)
 
You could always get that one and use a side grinder to flute the barrel. Just make sure you draw the lines strait or the job won't look too good. As far as the break goes, a small soup can painted black with some holes punched in it and some hockey tape and you're off to the races.

No kidding, anyone has a contact at savage to talk about this?
Is there a way I could get this rifle in 300 win built with the badass 338 brake and the 6 round AICS mag?

I wanted a nice LE 300 win mag rifle from savage...

Honestly I think the chance of them building a one off rifle for you is slim to none...............Plus AI does not make a 6 round magazine.They come in 5 or 10 rounds.........;)

You could always have the factory barrelled threaded for a brake and have one installed........and when then when it is time to re-barrel go for a fluted barrel...........they also may be bottom metal available to convert the .300 WinMag over to a detachable mag........I', sure a shop like ATRS could help you out......

I was never a big Savage fan, but after looking through the LE line up, there are a couple in there that I would buy.........:D

What kind of brake would you get, that fits on a bull barrel, and is agressive enough to reduce recoil enough for 300 win
 
You could always ask Mystic what aftermarket muzzle break and mags could be used to convert the 300 win mag to the config you want.

Looking at the desciption of the .300/ .308 it says 4 round capacity, and the .338 states 5 rounds........It looks like the .300/.308 do not have the detachable mag............
 
Yeah they do that for the 111 LRH also. They need to just make single image descriptions and make the rifle look like what it will actually be when you buy it. Sorry to hear you didn't get what you wanted exactly man. Good advice there though. Mystic will have a few options for you to consider..?
 
I'm not sure why you feel "deceived" and are "pissed" at Savage.

To the best of my knowledge Savage never advertised, or indicated that the .300 WM would come in the same configuration as the .338LM.

I have the 2011 Savage catalogue. It only shows the 10 FCP HS in .308 with a non-fluted barrel and no muzzle brake. As I recall they had a MRSP of around $1100.00.

When the .338LM was announced late last year, it was advertised to come with the 5 round removeable mag, fluted barrel and brake for a MRSP of around $1550.00.

I have had a 10BA in .308 for almost two years now.
I had a chance to shoot an early production 110 FCP HS .338LM late last summer. I was very impressed with the accuracy, the looks, and the lack of recoil with such a large round. I felt that the .338LM recoil from the 110 FCP HS was about the same as my 10BA in .308!!! Surprised me as well!

Prior to shooting the FCP HS, I was thinking of selling my BA and getting a 110BA in .338LM, as I wanted to try long range shooting this year.
However, after shooting the 110 FCP HS .338LM I decided to keep the 10BA for inexpensive practice and I'll admit.............the looks! Then order a 110 FCP HS in .338LM, which arrived about three weeks ago!
The BA is a big and fairly heavy gun, plus you have to like the "tacticool" look of it.

I think the 110BA in .338LM sells for around $2000.00 plus taxes. The 110 FCP HS in .338LM sells for around $1350.00 plus taxes!

I don't foresee shooting the .338LM a whole lot, so I figured I can purchase reloading supplies for the .338LM and load a lot of ammo with the money I saved!
In fact, I was using good match ammo in my .308, which was running around $35.00 for 20 rounds. I recall .300 WM costs around the same or a bit more than .308. Fishing World and some other of the above vendors are selling .338LM S&B HPBT match ammo for $30.00 for 10 rounds. So with even shooting factory ammo the cost factor is not that far apart in my eyes.
Reloading will bring the .338LM and the .300WM even closer to price per round.

Kryogen, I am not sure where you are located, but if you are in the S. Ont. area, you are welcome to come out and meet me at Silverdale and shoot both of the above guns to get a better idea of what you would like to do.

I have a feeling you may want to go for the 110 FCP HS in .338LM after doing so! I think it is a great value for what you are getting for the money. I know guys are getting very, very good groupings with these guns. IMO it is a great gun to enter long range shooting, one of the reasons I purchased one.

Life's tough, wear a helmet. Buy it and mod it or buy/build something to your liking. Pretty easy decision to make.
 
still debating over that 300 / 338 thing.... 338 is cooler, but it recoils more, costs more, and I dont shoot much past 200 yards anyway....

I must be old school, very old school, because the size of a magazine has nothing at all to do with precision or shot placement on my rifles. My custom receivers are all single shot and if using factory actions the magazine "stuff" is sacrificed for additional bedding surface. Another advantage being bullets are loaded where they shoot the best instead of fitting the magazine. But I admit to being a wimp for only shooting stuff that can't shoot back.
 
I talked to a Savage rep at a trade show in BC about a month ago, he said Savage has a 'custom shop'. If they can assemble a gun from parts they make/stock for other guns in the lineup, your dealer can order it. so maybe you could get the gun you want . . .

he said the lead time varies, and is always several months, but pricing is not totally out of whack with the stock guns (costs more, but not 1.5 or 2X).

so if the have the barrel you want on another gun, you might be able to order it switched, ask a dealer to look into it.
