Ageed bigtime. I've never shot meat critters from the stern to stem. I always preferred side or frontal shots on 'em. The spooky ones moving away I passed on.
I just enjoyed the view and waited for a better moment.

Friend of mine killed a nice bear with 110 eldx from a 257 Robert’s. Didn’t go 20. Nice clean pass through.

In Ontario, it is against the law to allow game meat to go to waste....don't know about other jurisdictions. If it was not something I wanted, I would grind the whole thing and give it away to folks who would appreciate it.

When I was a kid my father made it clear that "if you kill it, you are gonna eat it" That Robin didn't taste terrible, small though... good thing the pellet hit it in the head... skunks and coyotes excluded.

Not defending it, but BC says you have to take it home, not that anybody has to eat it.

When I was a kid my Dad told me that only an Italian would eat a robin, or a crow, he said they (Italians) call it "chicken with a black eye".

Indeed. I'll take a shot on a very steep quartering angle; entry in front of the rear leg and exit through the chest. I debone the meat without gutting so I don't really care about making mess of the body cavity :). But I'm not going to rump shoot any meat bearing animal or anything bigger than a wolf. I watched my brother shoot a wolf in the butt with a 300 WM 180gr Accubond. The wolf dropped instantly but the bullet didn't exit. Yes, shot was below the spine. If an Accubond doesn't pass through a wolf lengthwise, are you sure your bullet is going to fully penetrate a big buck? (Speaking of trophy hunting, you're not shooting small does.)

Apparently, "Texas heart shots" are common in some countries but I won't do it.

Indeed. That said, I did take a rump shot on an unwounded impala in Africa, but I was using a 375 and solids so the meat damage was quite minimal and penetration complete. And we ate him that evening (delightful little fried tenders around the fire). But this, as they say, ain't that.
