The 1100 barrel is for a 2 3/4 receiver. Im wondering if it will fit an 11-87
with a 3 inch receiver. The forcing cones are removed so 3 will 3 inch shells
work? Thanks
I DONT KNOW!

After rereading your question, you need some more answers.

You can not use a 2 3/4" 1100 barrel with 3" shells - even if you remove the forcing cones. There is a fundamental difference between a 2 3/4 and a 3" 1100 barrel. The 2 3/4" barrel has two (2) gas ports to facilitate using lighter loads when shooting. The 3" barrel has one (1) gas port.

If you shoot a 3" shell in a 2 3/4" 1100 barrel, (assuming you removed the forcing cones so the barrel won't blow up in your face) you run the risk of damaging the receiver. The dual gas ports will cycle the action harder than necessary, leading to premature failure of the action bars, carrier, and gas seals.

This also applies for installing a 3" mag barrel onto a non magnum receiver. The action bars are different, and you will rip the lighter 2 3/4" receiver apart.(according to Remington)

Bill,
You're 100% right on all points, but let me add that using 2 3/4 inch target ammo in the 3" barrel installed on a non magnum reciever is okay.

I shoot 3" mag steel loads in my replacement 3" chambered bbl on my 1100 2 3/4" receiver. The barrel clearly says 2 3/4" mag lead or 3" mag steel loads only. I guess you could also shoot 2 3/4" steel loads also. Again if the gun would cycle.

cheers Darryl

So why not just shorten the bbl extensions if everything else is the same? I've never seen the inside of an 11/87 to compare them. My trusty 1100 performs beautifully if I do my part. I do know that the 11-87 stocks will interchange. bearhunter

Thanks for all the info guys..especially bill. Yeah first off i figured it wouldnt cycle. Didnt think about the 2 holes over presurizing and destroying the bolt/receiver. Good point! bearhunter the inside is wierd compared to the 1100
Theres a plastic cap and a couple extra parts but its more or less the same.

By the way I have this barrel for sale if anyone is interested.
Heres a pic of it on my 1100. Im dedicating it to trap and am more into
the 870s for all other applications.
