I have a 110 ba in 338 lapua mag. I was out shooting the other day and a shell jambed. We were shooting three shot rounds at a thousand plus yds so the gun didnt get hot. I played with the extractor and ended up loseing the extractor in the grass. That brought our day to an end. Anyone have a reason why this would happen It took a few hard hits with my cleaning rod and a hammer to get the shell out. Thanks for any input.

What brass were you using? Full length sized ot neck only? I had cases sick with 1F lapua brass until I started full length sizing all cases.

I had this happen to me with my weatherby in 338 lapua. I use lapua brass and this was the 4th firing. I had been neck sizing. Now I bump the shoulder back 0.002" every time I load and I don't have any issues

Hornady and S&B brass in .338LM is generally viewed as single-use. Use once, then destroy. I, personally, find it overly soft.

Had the same problem (case would stick in chamber and extractor would rip the rim off), switched to Lapua brass, problem disappeared.

These are sellior & bellot. Used once 250grns

Are you FL sizing them or just neck sizing?

I've used some Hornady factory ammo in my rifle, and so long as I FL size they were OK. Not had S&B or Hdy as 1F from another rifle, but if I did, they'd be FL sized for sure.

Nothing done to them. They were fresh out of the box. It was about the 100th round without cleaning the bolt. Not sure if that matters. Hope to be able to shoot that far again soon.

You're using S&B factory 338LM rounds? If that's the case (no pun intended) then I'd think it was just a bad case somehow (too soft or something else.) Sucks that you lost your extractor, can you go back over the area with a magnetic sweep? I loose all kinds of stuff outside and just grab the mag sweeper (like a little broom with a magnetic head) and usually find them pretty quickly.

Wouldn't think it'd be a cleaning issue, I put 150 rounds thru my 110 last w/e without cleaning and it ran beautifully.

Are you not reloading your 338? I would think it's pretty much mandatory, at least around here it is. The only factory I can buy here is the Hornady for ~$95/20 rounds - ouch! Started reloading with 1F Lapua brass and haven't looked back.

Where are you shooting 1000 yds?
