Anyone try this combo? I bought a box of 110gr tsx when wholesale was going out of business.

I had two potential uses for these. Either load them full power and see what kind of velocity I can get out of them, or try to make some reduced power loads, maybe going 2900ish fps as a low recoil option for the wife (she doesn't hunt or shoot currently, but I can always dream...)

So has anyone used these bullets in their 270? What sort of results did you get?

Attracted by the alure of high velocity I tried them in a couple .270 Wins, a 270 WSM and a couple 270
Weatherbys. Eventually I ran out of them and gave up, I couldn't get them to shoot in anything. The last three of those rifles shoot 130 grain TSXs very well.

I haven't used them on game yet, I have only shot them at paper at 100 yds. They shot good at that distance, easily moa. I was getting around 3400 fps from my kimber 24" barrel. I wouldn't hesitate to use them on deer size game. 130 gr ttsx shoot well for me, so I stuck with them last season. I didn't notice much recoil at full throttle with 110 grain bullets.

Loaded to 3300-3400, they kill deer and even cow moose like no bodies business. Pass throughs are common, and finding part of the lung hanging out of the exit wound is very common.

They actually out penetrate a 130 Partition when equal impact energies are encountered. They retain 30% more weight than the 130 Partition. The TSX will expand to a larger frontal diameter than the 130 Partition too.

Don’t be afraid to try them, they recoil less too, even at 3400.

Oh im certainly going to try them. I've only got one box though, what sort of powders did you guys use? I've only got imr4350 on hand but I can get some 4064 off a buddy... Hoping I can find a decently accurate load without using the whole box at the range so I can try them on game, not really sure if I want to buy more of these, they were more of a novelty purchase (they were 50% off, at that price I'd try almost anything lol)

I was using H4831sc, it is one of the better powders for the 270win. I haven't used anything else in my rifle yet. It works, so I stuck with it. I'm going to try RL17 just to see what velocity I get with it. If you can't find H4831sc then get regular H4831.

With 110 grain bullets 4831 is too slow, you’ll fill the case before you make pressures and velocity.

That's what I was kinda thinking with 4350 as well?

Actually, upon checking Hodgdon data, IMR 4350 gives some of the best velocities, and only one of two powders that get over 3300fps.

I think I was using 61 grains of h4831, it was a compressed load. Velocity was around 3400 fps. I believe a powder that completely fills the case has a more uniform burn. I've been known to have been wrong before though. :).

savage lightweight hunter, barrel cut to 18.5" 110ttsx over RL17, win brass, cci 200 primer

these loads are safe in my rifle, start low and work up in your own rifle

velocities

54 – 3115 fps
55 – 3167 fps
55.5 – 3189 fps
56 – 3220 fps
56.5 – 3259 fps

accuracy

110 yds sunny, 10 deg celcius, center to center measurement

55.3 - .803”
55.6 - .991”
55.9 - .581”
56.2 - .542”
56.5 - .463”
**** 56.2 & 56.5 hit same location

with 56.2 and 56.5 hitting in the same spot, my hunting load will likely be 56.3 or 56.4...should be a forgiving load and 1.5 grns under book max.

have no doubt these will be very effective out to 350yds on game....still carrying 2300fps and 1300 ft/lbs

P.S.
For reduced loads I have good success with H4895...you can safely go down to 60% of max book loads...check the hogdon site for details

I ran them in 2 guns. An 80's push feed M70 and a current CRF Mod 70.
I found that they shot with the same level of accuracy that the guns displayed with 130 gr Ballistic Tips. The TSX being monometal is about the same length at 130 gr BT, roughly, so no stability issues.
Although I normally run 4350 I tried RL17 with these and found it performed well.
I've shot one deer to date. A spike horn white tail at about 130 yards. He was quartering towards and I hit him just inside the left shoulder. The bullet exited in front of the right hip. He flipped over backwards when hit, landing on his back with the legs quivering in the air. So DRT.
