I just picked up a flat of Remington Gun Club target load shells.
2 3/4"
2 3/4 dram
1 oz
1185 fps
Would this be considered a light or heavy load? I noticed the box says may not work in some autoladers and I was wanting to use these in my Remington model 58 which has the adjuster for light and heavy loads so I am not sure what to set it at. Usually I set it on light for 1145 fps and heavy for anything over 1200 fps.

I would consider the shells in question to be light loads.1 1/8 oz 3dram 1200ft/s loads would be heavy target loads.others may have a different opinion.

Set your Mod. 58 adjuster to "L". Should be O.K.

My 58, 1100 and 11-87's would work with reloads - loaded to data for 1180, 1235 & 1290 fps.

My current Beretta 391's work just fine with 24 gram ( 7/8 oz. ) loads at 1200.

X2. It's a light load and use the light setting on your 58. The warning on the Remington Gun Club is meant for inertia guns. Benelli recommends nothing lighter than 1-1/8 ounce 3 dram loads in their guns.

Nothing handles light loads better than a Beretta 391. Mine has cycled, albeit just barely, the Winchester Low-Recoil Low Noise shells which are specifically not meant for autoloaders.

My Win. Super X-1's handle light loads better than any 390 series I have ever used. And they don't sound like a Train wreck when they cycle. :)

Thats what I was thinking but I have always been cautious since I blew the cap off. Thanks

Have never had that happen ! Even when inadvertantly shooting max dram equivalent high-base duck loads with the selector on "L" ... or light target loads with the selector on "H".

Did you have the cap screwed down properly ? Make sure all the gas vent holes were clean ?

My 58's were very reliable, but they did like to be kept clean. Be sure to have the bolt-handle slot relieved to avoid craking the receiver. Look at the secondary slot cut on an 1100 or 11-87 to compare the difference. If your 58receiver is already cracked, a small drill hole at the far end of the crack can sometimes prolong life ( if the crack is not overly long).

My cap came off one time when I had it set on light and mistakingly fired a 3 1/4 dram slug. The cap was screwed down tight the actual tip with the vent holes seperated from the main part of the cap. My receiver is in perfect shape but I know what you mean.
Thanks

Can I get a new one in 3" with choke tubes and a synthetic stock? ;)

If you had of bought a browning gold when they 1st came out it would be dam close to a superx-1. That was the base for the initial gold design.I ordered one of the first 12ga runs probally in late 1993 after buying the new 10ga . It arrived late in 94 and actually came with a steel receiver, choke tubes and black syn stock. It cycles everything light to heavy. My second one bought a few years later has an alloy receiver which is the norm now I think.

Super X-1! Super X-1! All we hear is Super X-1. What happened to your Perazzi? Send it out to BOTOX out some of those dents? or is that old stick getting a whole new face lift?

Just thought it would be nice to hear about something other than Beretta's.:p
