My dad is giving me a cz/brno No. 5 to shoot. I want to scope it and I believe I need 11mm or 3/8" rings. How do I tell which ones I need?

So I measured the width across the top and it measures roughly 16 mm. SO where do I get rings for this? Sorry, I'm new to this. FYI this rifle was built in 1966.

I believe rings for a CZ 527 will work, the only problem is that if the rings have a recoil lug it has to be removed. Some have no lug, some have a removable lug and some have a lug that must be ground off. The Brno model 5 is one of the best sporter weight 22's ever made (in my opinion), congratulations!

I just went through this with a CZ Scout rifle. From CZ-USA website, CZ used both 11mm and 3/8" dovetails at different times on different CZ 452 receivers. OP has it correct - measure the width at the widest part of the dovetail. Will be 11mm for "11mm dovetails", with be about .500" (say, 12.7 something mm) for a 3/8" dovetail. Warne makes a QD ring that allows you to flip the clamp for either dimension. But if you measured 16mm, you have neither a 3/8" nor an 11mm dovetail.

I have a model 5 and use Brno rings. The Brno rifles are not 11 mm or 3/8 inches. I purchased unused Brno rings from a supplier in US. My model 4 uses the same size. Like the others I think they are 16 mm. I have seen Brno model 5’s advertised as 1972 production but this is well into the CZ ownership and might be built on the 452 receiver? I have seen recent adds selling these on rimfirecentral from someone in Europe. Great rifle and worth the time it takes to find the rings. Enjoy.

A company called Fox in Australia used to make rings specific to these rifles (16mm) I had a set that needed re-blueing and when I took them in the gunsmith looked at them, then at me and said "do you have the rifle that goes with these?" They're a bit of an odd ball.

CZ and Talley rings to fit 16mm dovetails are usually available from Prophet River, Tradeex, etc...and all CZ 527 rings will fit.

They are not hard to find.
