Just recently got a MK II FV and am putting a Boyd's thumbhole stock on it. Apparently I need a longer action screw because the original won't fit on the new stock( too short). Where can I find this elusive #12-32 screw? DI products won't ship to Canada... too bad because they have a sweet one piece scope base I'd also like to have. Any suggestions? Thanks!!

No luck! Tried 3 different places...seems to go up to #10-32 then switches to 1/4". Don't know why they would put such a uncommon screw in a widely popular gun..or at least make it long enough to fit any stock. Gonna try Savage or The Gun Dealer in NB.

You could call Western Gun Parts in Edmonton, some companys use non common threads and some use easily obtained threads. I usually get screws i need from a buddy that deals with Brownells in the US, they stock many gun screws.

Savage will ship directly to you... tell them that you need the action screws for a Boyds stock.

As far as your dip rail; these people are excellent to deal with & they ship to Canada.

Just called Savage and they're sending out the screws; free of charge apparently! They didn't take my Visa # just wanted my address!! Kinney's has the rail for my gun but only in matte black not the silver I wanted. :(

The DIP rail comes in 0 MOA and says its good from 25-150 yards. We shoot 20 yards at our club; think this rail would zero in good for me?

Your adjustability for elevation will also depend on the adjustment range of your scope... most are 40-60 MOA, but I have seen as low as 25 MOA and as high as 120 MOA on some expensive tactical models... with my 80 MOA Mueller and Nikon scopes I can zero out to 200 yards with the 0 MOA DIP rail...

I might have a silver rail in my shop for you, I will check when I get home.

The reason for specialty screws in the action is the screw needs to be wide enough to support a deep yet shallow thread pitch. This is so the action torque increases gradually when binding down. A standard 10/32 being narrower actually has a steeper pitch and would bind with little room for adjustment of the action torque.

Now why they can't use 10 or 8/32 for sights and rails etc, is beyond me.

Thanks Hoytcanon! I went on Kinneys and they have the rail I wanted but only in matte black. E-mailed them to see if they have it in the silver. I really like the cut out it has in it and it is high enough to let my scope not touch the barrel as it now does with the standard weaver #16 bases installed. It doesn't affect the accuracy tho....it is just barely touching, I can still turn the objective on the end with no problems. Would just like it to be off the barrel totally... just doesn't look right! :p
