I picked up a used grizz and after a battle got the choke sleeve out. Put in a remington choke and bottomed out the choke sticks past the barrell a 1/2 inch maybe more. Is it ok to shoot or is there shorter chokes?

Remington ones thread in no probs. ive never owned a shotgun that takes chokes so if this is normal please forgive me.

Yep i had the 8.5 grizz it was bad. I got this for next to nuthin tho so ill giver another go

I would check into it, but if I remember correctly they don't use a rem choke. They us a win choke, accu choke and another choke I can't remember now. I have a 12.5 that is threaded and I researched it awhile back and that is the info I came up with. I haven't got around to buying a choke yet, so I'd be interested in what you find out.

Are the threads the same across all brands? I bought two remington chokes because everything else aftermarket that fits DA grizz is remington 870 parts. they thread in no problem but they are too long they stick out past the barrel.

The grizzly uses winchokes, the remington chokes will thread in but there are not enough threads on the choke for it to seat all the way into the barrel .If you shoot it the entrance of the choke may peen over into the gap with the threads on the barrel.

Ok sounds good thank you! Ill swap those out. Is it ok to shoot if the choke sticks out past the barrel?

Tried a winchester choke today. No go not even close. None of the chokes i looked at are the same as the factory plug I removed. Remington are the only ones that thread in nicely. But the shank in front of the threads is too short. FTMFL

Searching the forums revealed that Browning invector, Mossberg 500, Weatherby and Savage shotguns chokes fit...(?) kinda crappy to have to buy one of each to find out though. Maybe bring the barrel to a LGS and test?

Winchester makes more than 1 style of choke, you likely tried the invector plus choke which is maybe an inch longer than the winchoke. You can also use mossberg accu-chokes made for the mossberg 500 and maverick 88(i use them myself)None of these chokes should stick out the barrel when seated.these are all short length chokes compared to the remington and invector Plus models.

I have a Grizzly tube fed w 12" barrel, and when I got it the choke tube wasn't threaded in all the way, the previous owner was concerned about it so he didn't crank it in. I took it out, cleaned male and female threads the best I could, and lubed it up with antiseize grease, and cranked it in. It was a leap of faith, and it took a lot of sweat, but it did seat flush with the barrel. I believe it was a Mossberg choke. My point is, I had to really lean on it to get it in the last bit, but it went.

I haven't even checked or thought to check if my tube fed 12" Grizzly barrel has a choke...

Oh, and if threaded, they should come with a choke already I'd think. Cause its damaging to the threads to shoot it without a choke installed. But if bought used, I guess the seller could have omitted it from the sale.

I just found this thread searching this evening. I have the older style Winchester choke, from the 1300 models. As far as I understand these should be a browning (standard) invector thread. They look the same as the one the barrel came with. Tried it this evening and it's not going to go in there unless I force it, which I'm afraid to do. Did your Mossberg chokes thread in easily?
