12.5 Grizzly vs. Dlask 8.5

Buy what you want, just remember who you're supporting. On my produce, I look for "Canada" first, "USA" second, "China" never. Same for guns these days. Owned some good Norcs over the years, but there's a point where I realized how important it is to support the home team. I like having the Grizzlies here too, and they seem like good toys, both Dlask and large amounts of Grizzlies help our cause. Both have their place, however I know which pockets I want my money going to, and which I trust more. I find it an incredible stretch to call a Grizzly better than a new model 870, in fact I get a good laugh out of that. Build a dream pump on a Chinese Grizzly action? Curious choice, to each their own!

There is no reason why buying a Norc prevents you from supporting a Canadian gunsmith if you want/need to have your Chi-Com tweaked. If the Norc guns are indeed superior to the American made guns (even American makers like Fulton Armory recognize that the Chinese M-14 receivers are very good) the competition should result in an improved product from the US.

If you are long of limb, I personally would be wary of the very short shotguns. Let an index creep ahead of the muzzle and you have the makings of a life changing event. If we consider that these guns are designed to be used in times of high stress, such situations increase the chance of making a mistake. I personally think a barrel equal in length to the common 4 shot magazine is as short as is practical for a two handed gun. This of course is a personal preference and is not meant as a criticism on either the quality of these guns or on the wisdom of those who choose to carry them. I know Camp Cook has a shorty, and I value his opinion and trust his judgment.

"Grizzly" and "Dominion Arms" are Canadian brands, looks like its profit stays in Canada.

We all know it's business suicide to mass manufacture 870 in Canada. I guess like many American companies, Canada Ammo focus on marketing and logistic, leave the rest to the Chinese manufactors.

I am glade it's a Canadian brand - at least there is one!

too few IMO. in terms of practicality, the grizz wins hands down. 4 shell mag, comfortable to aim and carry, heavy steel. and low priced. I'm a machinist myself, the grizzly internally is very well built considering the price. removable choke is a nice plus, and I love the ghost ring sights they put on it!

that is true, Dlask also offers a 12.5 do they not? I know they sell the barrel and I imagine they also sell a full setup in that config. not that you would need to buy it, since the 12.5" is designed to fit on a regular 4 shell tube, flush with the end.

They are re-branded Chinese guns imported by CanAm....check the dealer link at the top of the page.

Or rather, they are shotguns by the Canadian brand Dominion Arms(which are owned by CanAm) and built under contract by a Chinese manufacturer.

Preferring to purchase something made in north america is just that, preference. I think the intent of the focus was to remain on functionality rather than supporting various economies, policies, nations,...

If one are worried about buying anything made in china, one should probably start worrying about all the products with food colouring, plastic buttons, snaps, etc....because made in Canada or made in USA doesn't mean that all of the end product was made there.

My apologies for a minor thread hi-jack. You're right, Ardent, the thread is supposed to be a comparison of the two - that's why I looked here in the first place. Then my obsessive-compulsive need to comment on every little tidbit took over :(...

12.5 for bear defense. 8.5 for fun.

Personally while I can appreciate the 8.5" Dlask for what it is, I don't think I could ever really justify it for my needs. 12.5" is small enough and yet one could simply buy a longer barrel and stick it on for other uses.
