Hello,

I have a 12.5" barreled Dominion arms Grizzly. Currently it has a stock. I only use the rifle as a back packing companion. Unfortunately the stock gets hung up on brush & blow down when secured to my pack. I would like to add a pistol grip but I'm concerned this would render the rifle restricted etc.....don't want to do that. Apparently the Birds-head type grips give some extra length. Do any of you CGN'ers know if a birds head grip such as the Shockwave Birds-head grip will allow it to meet the 650 mm overall length requirement to stay non-restricted?

Thanks in advance

Barrel length isn't the issue. Overall length of the shotgun is key. Must be 26" total to still be classed as non restricted.

Okay. Makes sense. I figured it would be too short. So I need a 14" barrel and the birds head grip. Any idea where I can source a 14" barrel for a Dominion Arms Grizzly?

Depends on which folder. With a Mesa Adapter and Sidewinder I was just over the 26"

That must be a rather long setup, considering that an 18" barrel 870 with a vertical style PGO grip will come in with an OAL of around 28"

I wouldn't rely on an instantly removable extended choke or magazine extension to make up the gap on an OAL. But that's just my opinion.

Get a better packing setup?

+1, the best way to ensure it won’t get hung up is to have it in your hands. If it’s just a backpack gun for animal defence then it’s not doing you any good strapped to a pack anyway.

Be aware that some Grizzly shotgun receivers fit Rem 870 barrels and some do not, even if it fits it can be canted slightly due to the ejector and the ejector slot on the barrel. It’s best to trial fit one before you buy one if possible, if you buy one with a pedestal front sight or rifle sights and it’s canted to the side a few degrees it’s a pain in the ass.

Just to clarify it in a Eberlestock pack its B as quick as you can get in drawing a firearm vs carrying it in your hands. Thank you for your reply though....I agree I might be throwing good money at a bad idea.

" Is...is that a thing? I always attributed it to the barrel and stock, you're blowing my mind dude! "

Overall length means overall length.

If you unscrew the magazine extension; The gun literally falls apart.
It isn't any less permanent than the barrel or stock. All can be changed out in 30 seconds flat.

Yeah but you can unscrew an extension and put a regular mag cap on right away. The gun is still operable. Same with an extended choke.

If you remove a stock or birdshead then you don't have a stock at all, so the gun is then inoperable and if someone tried to fire one without a stock that would be reckless use of a firearm, so simply being able to remove a stock is moot because then you should not be firing it without one.

If you are going to put on a magazine extension, you may as well just go with a 14" barrel. And the magazine extension may have to be plugged in the field depending on your local hunting regs.
