Section 12(7) of the
Firearms Act is a clause permitting certain related individuals of Licensed owners of certain Prohibited hand-guns to be themselves grandfathered for Possession of those guns. It is not a Class of fire-arms; the Class is 12(6), actually 12(6.1), more properly only
limited (pre-1946 manufacture) 12(6.1) hand-guns.
Given that, the CFC does not print Licences with 12(7) on them; rather they put 12(6) under the applicable headings of Acquisition and/or Possession.
OP, do you have a PAL or a POL? Did you inherit a pre-1946 12(6.1) from a relative
after 1 December, 1998? Or did you own a 12(6.1) of any type yourself on, and continually since, 01-12-98?
If you have a living direct relative (parent or grand-parent, sibling, or spouse), with a PAL with 12(6) endorsement, that person can buy documented pre-1946 Prohibited hand-guns and pass them on to you, without dying and going through the estate, as well as after death.
The most certain way to find out what they will permit you to do, is to attempt to Transfer one to you. If you are of the opinion that you should be able to Acquire, and they believe you may only Possess, you will find out quickly, and at that point you can consider whether and how to proceed. If you *know* that you were not grandfathered yourself in December of '98, you shouldn't be able to Acquire any more directly, but who knows, maybe their system has a mistake and will let you do it anyway?
