I've got a WWII-era pistol that I'd like to transfer to a non-12.6 relative if it's possible. I know there's a 12.7 class for inheriting pre-1946 12.6 pistols but I don't know all the details on how it works. Do I have to be dead to have a relative inherit it or can I transfer it before I croak? Who counts as an eligible relative? How can I prove that the pistol is pre-1946? Anyway, I'm hoping there's a way to do it--any help or advice you can provide would be much appreciated.:)

-First I think it has to be a direct relative ie, son, daughter, wife, father, mother etc
-You don't have to be dead. My brother has three 12(7) and I'm not dead
-You will need forms from the CFC. Explain why you believe the gun to be made before 1946 and get a gunsmith to verify it.
-You may need proof the relative is genuine as well

My Grandfather gave me his pre 1946 12-6 revolver. It does have to be pre 1946 and given to a direct relative as listed by the CFC. We had some issues with verifacation but those were clarified over the phone. We basically initiated the transfer as per the norm. Be prepared for them not to know a whole lot about it so insure you meet the criteria and stick to your guns if they try to drag their feet a bit. I think 12-7 is kind of a one time quasi-class because I do not have a designation on my PAL.
