12" barrel for 10/22

You should really do a search on exporting firearm parts across the US/Canada border. If you ever get stopped on the US side without an export permit for ANY firearms (even if they are under $100), you can be arrested and barred from going into the US again. It's not the Canadian side thats the problem, the problem is you're breaking US laws.

Quoted from the sticky in the Legalese section:

"The US controls on the export of firearms extends to parts also. For small orders worth less than US$100.00 the US Department of State allows an exemption from the export licence. This exemption, however, does not cover ‘significant’ parts which includes; barrels, slides, cylinders, bolts, frames and receivers"

So, a $30 charging handle would be just fine, eh?

Rimfire rifle only needs to meet overall length of right around 26".

Not sure if the factory stock and a 9" would be 26"... factory is 37" overall so a 9" should be 28" overall so you should be good. :)

Try it and let us know how it goes. I hear there is very good internet service in American prisons.:p

It has been well established in other threads, which is why nobody is going to go into incredible detail here: No gun parts of any kind.

@ginnz: Personally, if I wanted to test my theory by asking, I would stop and ask the US border folks on the way down, rather than showing up at the border with the part in hand. The former shows that you clearly intended to get legal advice before doing anything that might be illegal. The latter could easily be interpreted by the folks at the border as intent to commit the illegal act.

This also depends on which stock you are using. The compact 10/22 is shorter, for example. Aftermarket stocks are probably different, too, not to mention folders! :)

It's not a huge deal, though: Just check the total length before assembling the barreled receiver into the stock. If it's too short, return the offending part or flip it on the EE. Oh, and don't assemble it first, because if it winds up that it's under 26" you will be in possession of a prohibited device. No matter how temporary it is, it's still a crime...

I ordered an A2 Flash hider and crush washer from Brownells, and they cancelled it as it was considered "Significant Military Equipment" and could not be exported.... Very confusing export rules.

As for barrels, Dlask has 12.5" ones in .920" and SR-22 (tapered in the first few inches to .75") contours. I have a McGowen 14.5" long .750" contour on order from Jerry at Mystic Precision but I will be waiting 3 months for it. Dlask is the cheapest option I've found for aftermarket 10/22 barrels.
