12 GA. Lowest Recoil - Commercially Available

Covey - obviously your reply is directed at my comment, and i dont want to turn this into a pissing contest, just saying that for now shes enjoying just shooting until Lmar can get that shotty done up for her and she can start shooting properly. never for a second did i intend my post to be taken that she should go on shooting this way forever or until she learns by herself.
at the moment, as lmar says she's gung ho n just wanted to have some shots with the 12g. She also seems to pick things up pretty quick.

never intended to go down the path of ruining her shooting experience

Imar,
Well I am glad that she is having fun, but I do not believe in baptism by fire or sink or swim, or once around the parking lot and then out on the freeway, for the first time behind the wheel. I think one must walk before you run. Enough of what I think or believe! I know that a flinch is easier to prevent than to cure. I know of many x shooters, especially ladies and young people who not want to be involved because they were allowed to go too far on their first shooting date. I envy you that your daughter wants to tackle the big gun. You have a diamond in the rough that needs to be polished instead of crushed. I do not buy for a second any of that macho s**t comments that they became good shooters because daddy let them suck up a bunch of recoil and they did not cry. I know of far too many men who would be superior shots, but are unable to control a simple flinch that could have been avoided. No matter how you proceed, I hope your daughter stays in the sport. Keep us updated.

Your concern is noted and appreciated just like other points of view expressed in this thread. Having been subject to the "old school" method you described I can appreciate your 'sink or swim' comment. As noted I am proceeding with caution - walking the fine line between 'fun' and instruction.

Given her reluctance using the more 'cautious' method and zero reluctance using the fun method I'll use the latter to hook her.

Once she shows an interest in actually wanting to hit what she is aiming for we will proceed down the more formal path of correct firearm, instruction, etc...

This would include lower recoiling rounds and/or smaller calibre/gauge and most importantly, a gun that actually fits her.

For now she likes hanging out and sharing range time with her dad and brother. I suspect like all things pertaining to children this to will pass as she grows older.

For now I'll just savour the moment.....knowing this time is all too fleeting.....

Cheers,

L
