What swinginberrys has stated is quite correct but there are additional considerations that should govern choice. Primarily, what's being hunted and style of hunt. As example, I find hunting waterfowl from a blind, for me, my AYA 3 1/2" 10ga. Mag double with heavy loads generally gets the call. However, walking sloughs jump shooting Ducks, something a little lighter, faster and a little less potent will fit the bill. Similarily, on game, my rifle choice for the wide open long range terrain hunting Mulies on draw in AB differes considerably from what's needed here on the island in closer bushier conditions hunting Island Blacktails.
