The powder coating ones are .682 to .683 dia and didn't notice any difference. I have shot hundreds of lee 1oz slugs but these are more accurate for me anyway.

The skirt on these doesn't seem to be thin, not sure about the original lyman 525gr but after shooting around 25 on sunday i didn notice any go flying way off target.
 
Got out to shoot again today, I really wanted to see if filling the hollow base was necessary with these slugs. The first loads I tried were with the recommended Blue Dot load and since I didn't have much of that powder I jumped right in with the filling the hollow base, well I can honestly say that in my case it does make a difference and I will be filling bases from here on in.
Everything is equal with these loads with the exception of naked and filled.
These loads are with W571 powder and not Blue Dot

Thanks for all the info on filling the bases. I've shot 100's and 100's of these in an 870 and accuracy is OK but not as good as you've been able to get with filled bases. Just a bit of info, I tried the load with Blue Dot and the recoil would rattle your teeth. Not sure how else to describe it but it was BAD. I only fired 3 shots and decided to pull them and not continue with that load. Has anyone else ever tried the Blue Dot load?

I shot some more today, but using unique with out filling and could get 1.5" at 50 yards.

I will have to try filling to see if it improves for me, but those results are excellent.

What distance are you shooting and is it rifled barrel?
 
Has anyone ever tried using wads cut from waxed milk carton jugs? Last couple of weekends we tried some offhand shooting and the results were quite impressive. None of us was shooting from a bench and shots were only taken offhand from 30-75 yards but results were good. Has anyone else ever tried a base wad?
 
I use a hard cardboard fiber wad between the shotshell Winchester wad and the powder, it is primarily used to make up the difference in the hull columb to get the slug to come to the proper finished height at the crimp.
 
The Base wads I'm using are placed under the slug itself. They're quite thin as they're made from milk cartons. I think it helps to keep the base from deforming much the same as filling the hollow base with wax. I just cast some of the Lyman 525's and am going to try filling the hollow base with wax as well as using the base wad to see if it makes any difference.
 
I am new here but have been casting, shooting and hunting with the 525 sabot slug for 10 years now and out of my Savage 210 its a tack driver and I have taken 9 deer and two coyotes
and over 50 ground hogs with it so far! ....I use CB12 wads that are molly coated and blue dot powder (hot loads) and load them into super handicapped Win AA hulls at around 1600 fps!! there good out of my gun to 150 all day and i would dare say 175 yards!
 
What sort of weight do these have with the base filled with hot glue ect? Anyone weigh their stuff?

Has anyone tried to measure bullet drop to estimate velocities at 50 or 100 yards?
