After many years of deer hunting in a shotgun-only zone in Ontario, I can now use rifles for my deer hunting...but I still enjoy shooting slugs for fun and practice. IMHO they are a wonderful and relatively inexpensive way to keep your shoulder tuned up for recoil. Poor accuracy with some slugs? Meh...just use bigger targets!
Here's my favourite slug shotgun: a Poor Man's Double Rifle...a Beater Big Bore...inspired by an article in a decades-ago Gun Digest. It's an old Husky 12ga SxS with barrels cut down, basic open sights installed, no recoil pad. It's actually taken a coyote, a couple of chucks, a few skunks, etc. all at backyard ranges.

It's especially sporting when a skunk is the target and I'm shooting one of the Husky's non-favoured loads (I'll buy whatever is on sale...). I often have to get close enough to the skunk that I end up being within his range; it's less like hunting and more like duelling!
