What's the lightest load available in 12 gauge? I used to see 24 gram(less than 7/8 oz?) 7 1/2s in the UK, but the lightest I have seen here is 1 oz and they are hard to find.
I want to get my wife to try shotguns, but she was put off by her brothers giving her a bad introduction to it when she was a kid.
I have a light 12 gauge o/u, so a 20 gauge with 1 or 1 1/8 loads would'nt be any better than a 12 with lighter loads.

I introduced my wife with my double 28 gauge..

She ha shot the 12, but even the light loads seemed abit much for her (from me watching her and from her responses)

Her favourite is the .22

I got an old girlfriend into a an o/u 20 ga..
She started using using it on a xmas day morning and by lunch she was hitting skeets..

I'd go open choke with a light trap load..

I'm tempted to buy a 28, but I'm afraid she won't like it anyway. She likes rimfires, can handle my .243 if the loads are'nt too hot and has recently got onto my .22 k hornet.
I have an old baikal o/u that I would shorten and put a Pachmyr recoil pad on if I thought it would help. I'm not sold on the 20, as a 20 kicks just as much as a 12 with the same load(more if the gun is lighter!)
I"ll try and find some of those winchester 7/8 oz.

The lightest factory 12 gauge load is Winchester Low Noise Low Recoil. It's 26 grams but at a very low velocity of 980 fps. The 24 gram Olympic loads are generally high velocity 1350-1400 fps and will have more recoil.

Winchester does not recommend the Low Recoil Low Noise in semi-autos as it doesn't have enough power to work the actions on most of them. It does work in my Beretta 391 but just barely. The LRLN is so soft that I've had it not reset the inertia triggers on an over/under and you can't get much softer than that.

Call around and see if you can find the shells that Claybuster is talking about ... the Winchester #s are AA12FL8 or WL12FL8. You could also probably arrange a flat or two to be shipped from Hummason's in Ancaster, ON (905-648-3430) if all else fails. I'm pretty sure they have some in stock. I've shot some of those and you sometimes wonder if there is anything in the hulls.

Here is a link to the Winchester web site ... http://www.winchester.com/Products/...coil-low-noise-target-load/Pages/default.aspx

You might look into reloading? 7/8 and even 3/4 oz 12 gauge are easy to load and sure are a pleasure to shoot.

I use very few shells myself, although I hope to use more this summer(skeet).
I don't use enough to load for myself, as I am loading for a bunch of rifles all the time already. I'd buy them if I could get them.

I've been using a lot of Kent's "Velocity International" loads ... 24 grams of No. 8-1/2 shot @ 1200 fps.

They give great breaks on Skeet & 5-Stand and work for all but the longest Sporting presentations ... wouldn't hesitate to use them at 16 yard singles either.

No problems cycling either my, my wife's or 3 buddies 391's !

my younges girl 12 year old shots one once loads all day long for my 12g pump no problems hearing protection is the biggest wory with propr ear protection it takes a lot out of the bang and it a lot less scarry for new shooters dUTCH

Bass Pro in CGY has some Win AA 7/8 loads. Low noise / Low recoil. I bought some for when I introduce new shooters to shotguns.
