12 Gauge SX3 Turkey Choke????

Hey Y'all,

Turkey season is right around the corner and I wanted to get some input regarding a good choke. I have a new winchester SX3, 12 Gauge, with a 26" barrel, 3 1/2" chamber.

Has anyone had any results with different aftermarket chokes/ammo combinations. I know from long range rifle shooting every gun is different, but I wanted to find a decent starting point...Heard some reviews on Jellyheads, undertakers, etc. mostly from US message boards. I want my good ol' Canadian shooter reviews!!

Would love to hear some of your results and appreciate any input that will definitely influence my next Turkey setup purchases!!!!!!!!

I run a factory full and a factory XX-full.

Though I have never needed the extra range longest shot on a turkey to date has been 11 yards.

I have had excellent luck with Winchester X-Tended Range 6's with the above chokes.
 
Before you go spend a big pile of money on Turkey loads and chokes, try shooting a quality 2 3/4", 1oz. load of #6 shot thru the full choke that came with the gun...you might just be surprised to see how beautiful and tight it patterns! If that isn't tight enough than go buy the turkey choke and try it again...

Fire a shot a 50 yards with a turkey load and then the 1 oz load of 6's. You never know when you might have to swat a bird at distance, or the bird plays possum after grazing its noggin with a pellet and starts running leaving you flat footed.

I have...that's why I suggested he give it a try! For the record, I also shoot a 3/4oz. load of #8 shot from the 27 yard line at Trap...I was told it can only be done with a 1 1/8oz load of extra hard #7.5 shot! I'm a shooter not a scientist so I have no explanation for it...but light loads tend to produce amazing patterns thru tight chokes!

So some of you are suggesting starting off with the stock chokes eh? I would have originally thought it would be a bit waste of time going stock, but I'm picking up some turkey loads next weekend. I have remington copper plated high velocity 3.5 2oz #4 right now, but I'd like to pattern a couple of others that seem to have good reviews. The Hevi-shot and hornady something somethings...lol I heard about the Winchester ammo that has flight control..
I'm going to start a new thread for the SX3 guys posting my picture results to give those guys a better idea where to start. Looking forward to other replies :)

I wasn't disagreeing, but just suggesting he try both. Less shot = less deformation.
