Was out doing some pattern testing with a new turkey choke using 3.5 inch 12 gauge 2 ounce loads. Anyone know what the recoil is for these loads? because they sure pack a wallop.

Another guy who had just purchased a shotgun for turkey hunting was patterning his turkey gun and developing a flinch (he had gone through 2 boxes ... ouch!). I suggested to him that the best way I knew to get rid of that flinch was to (first give his shoulder a rest for a week) switch to target loads and practice with them for a while.

A while back I had some 3" turkey loads, bought one box to try them. Barked a massive flame out the end of my barrel and kicked like a mule.

Depends on the gun, If you have a gas operated semi, it will be alot milder than a single shot break or a pump.

Also I've found Federals with the Flite Control Wad kick a hell of a lot more than any other shell. I first shot Winchester Supreme 3" 1 3/4oz #6's out of my 870, then I switched to the Federals also 1 3/4" and it nearly knocked my on my butt. Once I shot the Winchesters, I was thinking Turkey loads aren't all they are cracked up to be, then I tried the Federals and it was easily 10x harder of a kick.

Having the correct shooting position will also reduce felt recoil. Don't expect it, just be relaxed but firm on the gun, and make sure its seated in your shoulder properly.

I patterned some 3" Hornady turkey loads from both a Beretta Silver Pigeon and a Winchester SXP. Both were stout but still less than a 1 1/8 ounce 2 3/4 slug. I was shooting from a standing position and I'd expect it to be much worse from a bench

..... shoot em from a coach gun. good times.

I use 3 inch loads.... 3.5 inch doesn't kill them any deader and I refuse to sell my trusty first generation 870 express just to be able to shoot them....

No need to burn through 2 boxes of the same type of spells... your gun will either pattern with them or it won't. ..

Once you get that Gobbler in your sights you won't even feel the recoil.... if you do I suggest putting a couple maxi pads under your bra strap to dampen it ;)

Why are you people using 3.5inch, can you not hit a turkey with 2.34inch and kill it, if not maybe spend some time actually shooting your gun and seeing what it will do for you!!!!
