I just placed an order for sam1 wads and steel bb. I have steel powder already

I need to know what hulls to look for since I have win aa and sts which are not recommended

It will be for duck/goose hunting within 50 yards

I need to find recepies where do you recommend I look with these components?

Do you have an rsi reloading specialities manual for steel reloading if not I suggest you get one.
I don't do 2 3/4 lately but thought there was recepies for compression formed hulls will have to have a look
Guys still use the Federal GM for sure since I just sold a guy 500 in 2 3/4" for steel reloading and that is what I used at the time maybe that is why

Not worth reloading steel when it can be purchased cheaper and factory wont bind up and blow up in your face

You either don't shoot a lot of steel or don't own a 10ga :)
Nothing dangerous with reloading your own steel and yes you can save money
You cannot purchase the quality of the home grown that is for sure
Cheers

I have some federal gm hulls and green peters as well. I have the lyman book. I will need to get the others soon.

What's your opinion on load a fps

I've found opinions on heavy load fast fps and lighter loads 1oz and slower 1400fps

When I bought steel I was always trying to get heavy payload with max fps

X2 on the RSI guide.

I worked loads in Gold Medal hulls, steel, SAM 1's, and 1-1/8oz.oOf steel 2's, threw in a smudge of buffer, and managed 1475fps.
Killed. all manner of ducks and geese with great ease to 40 yds and even a but more.
Just pattern your load!

Lefty is right . It is all about patterning. Anything over 1400 is fine and too fast many times screws the pattern
When I started picking loads for my guns I picked maybe 10 loads out of the book and reloaded 6 rounds of each and hit the paper with my choke tubes. From that I narrowed it down finer playing with more chokes and more reloads to what I still use today.
Spend the time patterning it is well worth it and for me IM briley chokes are as good as any of the expensive ones

nope, i dont own a 10ga, but i could understand with that, ive tryed to help a buddy find some #4, near impossible. Just in 12ga it isnt worth it.

Well worth it in 12ga also especially the 3 1/2 . Just for the fact I can load what I want when I want is worth it. But when all set up still save money plus it is a nice pass time and nothing like hunting with ammo you made yourself
Cheers

I reload because I enjoy it and knowing that you killed something with what you made is a great feeling.

Whatever I saved I dump back into components. I end up shooting more for the same price.

I load 2 3/4" with Remington premier sts
And AA hulls, loads listed in RSI are deadly
I loaded one with 7/8 oz of 4 at 1675 fps
Listed for AA HULL, using Alliant steel
Great in decoys and close wing shot
The other loads I make are in rem hulls
1 1/16 #3 at 1475fps, works wonders

Ordered the handbook through the rockland pronature as well as my steel shot and Sam 1 wads

Cool. Soon you will be ready to go.
Myself I reload each shell one at a time weighing every powder and shot load. Yes I have steel masters and universal bars but I find the drops are just not accurate enough for me.
It is not like I am reloading 5000 28ga skeet loads a year so a box or two of steel an evening works just fine

That's exactly what I plan on doing Saturday. Make about 12 of each load I try and pattern them through my different shot guns.

I'm going to try bb first. Should I use large rifle primer tray to count the pellets?

I don't count them. Just weigh them on the 1010 scale and add or take away as required
