That is what I do. Then I tape over the empty part of the primer try and can quickly dip the tray in a container of shot and have the same number of pellets each time. It is faster than individually weighing each load.
I did the same when I loaded lead BBs as the bigger shot did not always drop or feed nicely in my reloader.

If speed is an issue for you one can also set up the loader with the adjustable bar to do the large dump in a box of 25 and just take away or add a few pellets either way as you weigh them individually
Me I still weight every shell probally because I used some much of the old hummason steel shot years ago which was really all over the place and not consistant.
Don't think they even make it anymore .Have not compared the new rsi stuff

I just weighed out a load, dumped it in an empty hull, then cut the hull off at the shot level and used it as a dipper. I did that for each different shot size and marked each dipper.
 
I would recommend RSI load # 65. With BB you should not need fillers/felts. This load is very good and usually patterns well. If you want to play a bit get some single Bs to up your pellet count a bit and still have lots of punch. If you cant get that article email me at rsquidjigger@aol.com I will email you a copy. I wrote the article so I am sure the author wont mind. ....lol.

There is lots of 1oz loads out there too that work very well in 2 3/4" hulls.

How cool it that.:) Do you remember what year you wrote this paper. Know it was a big help to many of us and we still share it Cannot remember where I seen it first but it was a keeper

Thanks Rob, I was able to read it with the new link. Alot of good things in that article!

I can't wait for the rsi book to come in. The websites I've gone to always recomend certain # load in the rsi book. Nobody gives the recipe so now I can decode the secret code.

A note on SAM 1 wads. Sometimes pellets will stick in them disturbing patterns. To correct this slit them all the way to the bottom with a box cutter or equivalent and the problem will go away. I do this on all sam 1 wads it work very well and eliminates the problem.

Took a quick look and as I thought still had quite a batch of the old Hummason steel shot 8 bags in fact in BB, 2 and 3.
Wonder when they stopped selling it. This has to be 15 plus years old.
I have been a customer of theirs forever and never a problem but comparing it to what is out there today you definately don't count pellets with the vintage stuff and they were way ahead of their time with some of the shapes:D
