12 guage barrel size??

Ok, I believe I have the right shotgun in mind that I am going to be buying in the next week or so. I wan't a do it all 12 guage, something I can use for grouse, pheasent, and also the high flyers like ducks and geese and then the odd turkey. Kind of an upland slash wetland slash turkey getter. So the two barrel sizes im tossing around are 26" and 28", what would fit these needs better?? If someone was going to buy 1 shotgun for all these purposes what size barrel would it have?? Thanks
 
What kind of gun? A pump or auto has an action that is longer than a break action gun, so it may use a shorter barrel and still end up with the same length of sighting plane as a longer barreled break action. Where is the balance point on the gun? How does it feel to you with either barrel? Does the shorter barrel feel "front end light", or does the long one feel ponderous? One length should seem more controllable to you. Shot shell ballistics will not matter with either length. For your stated requirements, you will need a gun with choke tubes.

i have an 870 express super magnum in 28", i can vouch that the gun is excellent, i have never used it for turkey but the 3.5'' shell possibility could do the job. 3.5's bring down geese well!

1 Shotgun , what are you doing . This is the perfect opportunity to pick yourself up a second shotgun , you know a specialized tool for a specific purpose !!!!!!!!!

Don't do anything to limit your buying potential :cool:
 
Close your eyes, shoulder both guns. Whichever one feels best buy!!!

The difference between a 26 and 28 inch barrels is next to nothing, other than what feels best to you.
 
A 26 inch on a pump shotgun gives a fairly long sight radius and works quite well... about the same sight radius as a single shot with a 32 inch barrel.

A 28 inch will also work quite well. Basically the same velocities or very close.

Your decision on what you like the feel of.
 
I'd go for 26" or 24" myself... when shooting "Sporting Clays" I personally find the 28" is just to long/heavy to make fast transitions from one clay to the next. But that is me :)

Since you wanted 26" or 28" go for 26"
