12 guage youth model

my wife has a hard time with my 870 12 gauge. She has short little arms and can't hold it properly. Can anyone recomend a youth model in 12 gauge pump?
There are 870's in youth for 20 gauge, but I understand 20 gauge is a poor choice for trap. Is that so?

I pciked up a beat up old stock for an 870, 5 minutes with a chop saw and a belt sander and voila a youth model. Then you can swap stock as you need to.

Yep! just pick up a new 870 for the wife............5 mins. with the swede saw and voila!!.....youth model 12 gauge.

I believe so. The youth stock (which should be able to be picked up at your local hunting store) is about 1 inch shorter in the butt part. But the forearm appears to be about the same length. So depending on what finish is on the gun now, I would think you would not have to change the forearm. I was looking at the same youth stock for the GF as well. It comes in a fancy Remington package and at my nearest store goes for about 80 bucks or so if I recall.

If you have a 30" bbl you may consider getting a shorter one but not necessary. A tru youth gun is usually hase a 21"-24" bbl. My little hunting buddy is 13 he has a 28"

Bingo! The barrel must be shortened as well, as youth/women don't have the upper arm strength of the typical male. Especially when you consider what removing two inches of the heaviest part of the stock does to the gun balance. Now the CG has moved forward, making it even more unwieldy!! The barrel MUST be shortened, so either buy a separate 21" youth barrel, or chop and tube it.

20 gauge works fine for trap.

Maybe a pump isn't the right gun for her. Why not try her with a 20 ga sxs or o/u they tend to be a little shorter in the stock. And may be more comfortable for her to shoot.

Ladies gun

An old 1100 is a great gun for ladies light and a semi to boot, I think rem. used to make a youth version years ago. Our local CFO has young boys that shoot and they have youth guns, I believe he had said they were 12 ga.
But either way 20 ga is still fine for trap.
The people that make the Condor shotgun make a youth but I think its only available in the states, not sure what would be involved in getting one here.
