12-inch barrel extension?

The SIR catalogue came through the mail slot yesterday.

In the shotgun section they sell a 12-inch full choke barrel extension that screws into your choke tube.

What would that be good for?

If I put it on my 870 I'd have a 40-inch barrel.

I had a 12.5" Dlask barrel that was fitted for chokes... would have been great at the Skeet range.

I believe it makes the gun quieter. There was some talk about this on one of the U.S. sites. Something along the lines of the noise from a 32 in barrel compared to a 18 in barrel.

Is it called a Metro barrell? Because if it is it's meant to be used with subsonic ammunition for shooting golf course geese or other place where noise is an issue.

No, the Metro itself is like 24" long, just ridiculous looking.

Some factory goose guns of old (well, 40 years ago maybe) had 36", and 40" barrels.
