hey guys just got my 12" heavy barrel from fabsports....now what? any pointers on what works good for reaming out the stock (plastic or wood) and and usefull tips for installing the new barrel?

thanks
ryan

I used a small sized spark plug socket wrapped in sand paper.
It was about .900" O.D. but with the sanding action is came out to about .930" - .940"
Like CNADNSL8-5 said....go slow and keep it straight. It took me about 1/2 hr on a wood stock.

Love to see a picture of that when your done. Anyone else done this. What's the deal in regards to CFC. does it have to be reclassified ? Sounds like it would be very

I threw my 12" bbl into the freezer, dropped the end of my receiver into boiling water, and jammed them both together real quick. Worked like a charm, and as a plus its nice snug fit.

I dont plan on switching back to an 18" barrel though. :dancingbanana:

Edit: and If you actually read that nice piece of paper that your registration Certificate comes with, you only need to inform the CFC if:

Any mod that affects its classification: non-rest, rest, prohib (the 12" barrel does not affect class, it remains non-rest. therefore does not need new cert, therefore no notification to the CFC)
Any mod that results in the firearm ceasing to be a firearm.
Any mod to a firearm or receiver that allows it to discharge ammo.
Any mod to the type, action, calibre or guage of the firearm,
Any modification to an altered automatic firearm

Have fun and take your time.

Very easy to do but you can still muck it up. Put a 16" Green Mountain on a few years ago. I burred out the original stock with a 1 1'4" pipe with 200grit sandpaper the spray painted a nice camo. I eventually got a Hogue for it.

so does one re-use the barrel band? Wouldn't the change from "standard contour barrel" preclude using the same barrel band on the .920 heavy barrel?

The barrel band is useless with a heavy barrel.
Some guys mod them so the top arch is cut off, but after you hollow out the barrel channel, there's not much "meat" left on the sides where the band originally sat.

i dont understand how it doesn't effect class, since it is a semi auto, changing the barrel to a length shorter than 18 inches. wouldn't that be enough to change classification?
if not, i want one.. :D

The minimum bbl length of 18.5" for semi auto centerfire does not apply to semi auto rimfire.

Also check your registration certificate. Mine just says barrel length is under 470mm. I have the 11.5" Fabsports barrel on mine with the Archangel stock and that is the shortest I can go. I emailed the CFC asking this same question as I want to cut down my 18' barrel to 15" and they said there would be no change in classifiacation. TC
