1200 super clip Parker Hale Action question?

Hi all am a new member and have more then enjoyed the last few days searching the very informitive articles on this forum... But i have a question that i cannot seem to find an deffinative answer to... I just aquired a Parker Hale 1200 super clip and would like to rebarrel it to a 22-243 but am not sure excactly what action it is? Is it a large ring or small ring Mauser or a different action all twogether? And where in Canada would be a good place to purchase and have this barrel installed? Are there any VERY good barrel makers in Canada or am i better off to buy a douglass barrel? Thanks in advance for the info and letting me be apart of this wonderfull forum!!

Large ring Mauser, likely made in Spain. Do a search on here for barrel makers and gunsmiths, there are a few good ones in Canada, and some in each area of the country, if you would like to support local (relatively) business. - dan

What caliber is it now? ... and if the magazine will hold and feed a .243 shell, it can easily be made into a .22-243. I suggest a match quality stainless barrel made in Saskatchewan by Ted Gaillard... I have a reamer for that... if interested click on my name and send a PM or email..

Thanks for the info both of you... And yes if at all possible i would rather give the coin to our country but on the other hand i want this to be an exceptional shooter so also want a good barrel... The gun now is a 30-06 and feeds 308 fine from the clip so i cannot see why 243 would be an issue considering there relative dimensions..

Gaillard makes exceptional barrels, they are right up there with the best BR big boys, just not as famous. 22-243 is a very fast cartridge, I shoot a version called a 22-243 Middlestead, uses a slightly modified 243 case. I would suggest a 27" barrel, fairly stiff. It will be easy to push 55 gr bullets at 4000 fps. - dan

dan belisle how many rounds do you get through a barrel pushing bullets that fast? 1000?

I haven't worn out the first one yet (27" Shilen). I expect around 1500 or so before I have to replace the barrel. It's not a gun that gets a large volume of fire (and I have few rifles to choose from). Next barrel will have a 1-9 or 1-8 twist though, for heavy 22 bullets. - dan
