Any real advantages or disadvantages of using one or the other in a open gun?

I understand that less powder would be needed to make the same velocity with the lighter bullet but not I don't see that as a advantage as the PF would not change that greatly with only a difference of 3 grs. Any other input would be appreciated.

if using the same powder for both weight bullets, you typically need more powder to push a lighter bullet to the same power factor.
More powder = more gas, which usually works comps better.

Theory of how the gun will behave and how the gun tracks in your hands/how the dot actually behaves are two different things.
get some of both and see what you like better.

Downside to 121 gr is if you get a batch that comes in light enough to go below 120 and there is a chrony stage.

Even with your fancy new radar chrony that won't be a prob as with my 124 gr loads I PF at about 170.
I think you missed his point. Weigh in less than 120gr for the bullet and you're fooked...

Appendix D1
(3) - Minimum bullet weight - 120gr for major

Ammunition which fails to meet the minimum bullet weight above, but which chronographs at Major power
factor, will be treated as unsafe and must be withdrawn (see Rule 5.5.6). If the weight of the first bullet weighed
under Rule 5.6.3.3 fails to meet the minimum bullet weight required for Major power factor, Rule 5.6.3.6 will
apply, and a second bullet will be weighed as a final and definitive bullet weight test.

I played with 121gr Montana Golds once - didn't see any appreciable difference between them and the 124s - but - YMMV.

Im using right now the 121 gr. switching from 124/125. . accuracy wise very identical, however the trajectory of the 121gr. is more flatter than the 124/125 on my gun. Im getting the same POA/POI between 7 yrds-25yrds. However Ive increased my powder charge to .2 of a grain to get the same PF as my 124gr. it was a challenge at first looking for powder that will fit to the 9mm case, Right now the CFE pistol doesnt fill up the case and giving me enough room to seat the bullets.
Gun BBL- Schuemann 5" with 2 popple holes
CFE pistol 7.1 gr.
OAL- 1.50" Frontier 121gr Match, Primer- CCI SRP
PF- 167
BTW- the Frontier Match 121gr. is very consistent weight wise, 121.1gr-120.9, and Jorg" Frontier 121 are all reserved for me. lol
