125 gr bt and 30-30 loads

First its for my Savage 340

Cant seem to find any loads??

At the moment I have R19, H4198, H4895 Imr 4350 and H4831.. I have WLR primers.

So anyone have any ideas or is it off to Vancouver!!

First off the Savage 340 limits how long you can seat the bullet, most boat tail bullets like the 125g ballistic tip are too long. I have loaded 125g Remington pointed soft points with H335 to about 2600 fps with no preasure signs, and decent brass life. I have loaded the Speer 130g flat nose with IMR 4198, but never cheched speed. For a single shot I had, I loaded the 125g bullets with H335 to 2700 fps and used that for coyotes out past 250 yards. The Savage 340 that I still have gets a diet of 170g Remington bullets and 33g of IMR 4064. It makes a ragged hole at 50 yards with the iron sights. It is my bush walking deer rifle.

They are Nosler ballistic tip if that makes a difference, can I shorten the bullet or what about trimming the brass slightly shorter??

Do you have the bullets already. IF you have them try loading up some dummies and trying them in your Mag. I wanted to load that same bullet but could not find them locally so I bought some Sierra BTSP in 150gr.

A 125 gr boat-tail, be it from Nosler or Sierra, has a pretty short shank length, so I doubt if seating short enough to run in the magazine will be an issue. The .30/30 has a very generous neck that will accomadate bullets that are quite long, I even load 195 gr cast spitzers in mine, without any excessive neck trimming, although I single load them due to the tube magazine. For your 125 gr loads, you can use the 130 gr data from the Hodgdon site without getting into trouble.
