12g reloading?

.... and the "dumpster divers" and "hull who**s" come out at the mere mention of AA empties...
The last time I found Winchester AA hulls I was about to throw my coffee cup into the garage can at the range. It was about a third full of AA’s. I went and got a new bag and changed them out. Only garage with them was was the boxes they came in. Also a few PPU 303 British I found when I got home. I probably have enough for ten or fifteen years. Definitely guilty of dumpster diving.

Some of us love the old style AA better than the new stuff even though you can use the same data. Old ones are a one piece hull. New have a separate base wad.

The old ones were the only one’s I ever reloaded. Decided 20 years ago reloading was not worth it for me.

5 cents a hull difference now also when selling 1x. Old ones can get 10 cents now in 12 ga, 15cents in 20ga
410 and 28ga 25 cents
16 what ever you like. My last ones sold for a buck a hull
Personally I don't like the new HS style for reloading

Cheers

Same here good AA are worth money . I also don't like the HS hulls I have had them split after loading just sitting on the bench.

I threw out 5000 once fired AA 12 g hulls 5 years ago when we moved because I couldn't find anyone to give them too.

I will say yes 12ga old style are hard to move unless asked for them but getting easier as they dry up but the rest of the old true compression formed gauges some will pull the arms off you to get them
A lot of guys don't like reloading the new HS. I know I don't
Cheers

The best 12ga AA hull ever IMHO for reloading was the old black ones. Spank would remember them in fact that old dog may be still shooting them LOL
We tested them all with the same components and for us it was black tops, then dark silver supersports ???? I think they were called , light silver and then red and there was two different reds. The older ones with the ring in the brass and 100% copper primer not just a copper center lasted longer
The black were like 12 good reloads and the red were 6
We actually asked winchester and they said color did make a difference since the dies would change the final product of the plastic formulation somewhat
Cheers

I have to agree. I got lucky and found different colour hulls. Grey, black and gold where used for various factory loads. I happen to have good supply of each. Helps with load identification. HS cases don’t last as long. The other case I like is the Federal plastic Gold Metal which I use for my slugs. I miss the old Blue Magic. I still have a few that on their next firing are done.

I shot lots of the black AA's too but my favorite AA is the Supersports. I don't shoot them all day long at a shoot though, just when I need a bit more reach on a hard target!

You mean the dark grey ones? My reloader seems to prefer them to the red AA's. Loaded some up last night and really like them.
