Hello all,

I just wanted to get an opinion on target shells for a new Rem 570 express tactical I have on order.

I want to take it out to the range and run a few rounds threw her and get some practice in.

Right now, i'm down to two choices, which are Federal Field and Range 7 1/2 shot, 1 1/8oz 100@29.99 at cdn tire - or Winchester target load, same specs 100@$31.99.

Anyone have preference on #4, #7.5 or #8 for skeet or hitting steel plates?

Good? Bad? Ugly?

Thanks.

I've tried both winchesters target loads, universals I think and federals top gun which is there equivalent. I have an 870 and have plenty of misfires with federal and shells that don't eject. No problems with winchester. Premium shells no problem. Winchester and remington shells eject like a hot knife thru butter, federals not so much. Not buying anymore federal top guns after this. Not an expert but 4 shot is to large for skeet. If the difference is a few bucks get the winchesters.

Number 4 or 2 for shooting steel plates you will get less splash back as for shooting clays for me the cheaper the better I like number 8 for skeet it is a close range shotgun sport for
trap I take 7.5 and they will also work for skeet.

Federal top gun is also a very good choice for skeet. I like 8 - 8 1/2 or so. Similar to field and range.

For shooting skeet 7 1/2 is the biggest you'd ever want to go.

Federal all the way! Make sure the brass is high. Compare that to an alluminum or low brass Winchester. For plates, i dont see why #7 wont work, but i use #6 personally.
I use an 870 express, so cant explain post 2. High brass may cost me 2 to 3 dollars more per box, but no issues. alluminum, gives me grief.

I have shot a ton of Federal Top Gun at skeet in the last couple years out of my O/U in both 12 ga and with 20 ga. sub tubes. Never had a problem, never had a missfire. The place I buy my shells now sells Remington Gun Club for $2 more per flat than Top Gun.

Thanks for the replys guys.
I ended up picking up some Federal Field and Range 7.5 and going to see how they fair. Too bad it's been raining so often - and the only nice day (today) i'm swamped at work and can't hit a field.
If this stuff is meager, i'll check out the Federal Top Gun for sure - looks like it's a better product.

My Rem 870 and Dominion 12.5 870 will eat everything an anything I feed them with no issues at all, the only time I get hang ups is with 3" shells if I cycle the action without authority.
