12ga BB shot on coyotes

I had to sell my coyote rifle and reduced using my 12ga for coyotes. The largest shot I can use is BB, I will using a single shot 12ga full choke 30" barrel. What do you fellas think?

I think you should buy a rifle.......

Even a .22 lr is a better choice IMHO.

You can shoot #4 buck through a full prob a better choice. Less holes.

Steel isnt even a consideration I would hope.

Geese shake off steel BB like it's nothing on occasion.

all i have is a 12ga and a 308, here in NB it's .224 or smaller, shotgun with BB or smaller, and i'm dead broke

Inside 40 yards with lead BB and shoot for the head ( full choke will group quite good inside that distance), got a couple with my 11-87 and lead BB 15 years ago... JP.

Just try a bunch of different brands and see how they pattern.

I am often surprised how differently the same type of shell, of a different brand, pattern.

give it a try and as others have said keep the range down to reasonable distances . lots of guys use shotguns in my area when running hounds on the yotes and they are just as dead as a rifle albeit at close range .sorry to here that you are finacially strapped.get out and hunt those yotes as they can be worth a good dollar and i hope your circumstances improve .

#4 buck is what I use. It works great. Leave the BB stuff for geese.

Put 3 targets out at 50 yards that's about coyote size, and fire 1 round into each. You'll see how it works on average. Using a Full choke for coyote and large size shot is best, and if you try targets at closer shots like say 20 Yards, you'll see Full choke works best there, too. Remember a shot pattern drops like a rifle bullet, so at 50 yards you may learn you need to aim high so the pattern's centre pellet fall onto target centre. Do some research on how many pellets are inside the shell, so you can count how many hit the target, and tell how good or bad distance verses shot, etc. Spend an afternoon with some targets, take pictures of the targets for reference in the future, it'll answer all your questions, give you confidence and knowledge of you gun and hunting, and what's even more important...it's really fun to experiment like this. Enjoy.

If you hit it at 50 yards, could be a cripple instead of an instant kill. Call them in closer.

God knows around here We have killed them with steel when goose hunting and an old coyote attacks the decoys. Mind you that is three or four guys opening up on him at 25 yards and one or two of the dudes with a 10ga.

thanks for all the info, but i just traded my 12ga for a 22lr, seen some videos on youtube and was very impressed with it, $7 for a box of cci stingers, it's the best i can do for now
