+1 I think you've made the right choice.
Just be sure to practice lots with that little .22 and whatever rounds you're going to be using. If you're going to do something, do it right. I use a .243 with 58gr v-max which is MORE than enough to kill at some pretty decent ranges. I still don't shoot past 300 because that is the limit at which I know I can kill a dog with one shot and minimal suffering.
