12Ga flares OK to fire in shotty?

Don't buy extra gear if you don't need it. Just buy flares that were designed for use in a 12g shotgun.

OLIN 12 Gauge Flare
Catalog #R912 Burning Time: 5-6 seconds List Price: $7.80 ea. (Sold Individually)
Altitude: 80 meters, Colors: Red and White, 4 cartridges per package D. Visible from a distance of approximately 2 KM by day and 20 KM by night. For use with the OLIN Pistol or a 12 gauge shotgun.

Just because they are 12 gauge doesn't mean they were made for a shotgun, they have a shorter length especially designed for shorter chambered FLARE GUNS. But they will probably work in a shotgun with NO CHOKE. Where did you get the quote because I can't see OLIN making the statement that it would work in "A 12 GAUGE SHOTGUN" when it MIGHT NOT WORK in some FULL CHOKE shotguns. I can see them covering their corporate a-ses with a blanket statement of "for OLIN flareguns only," even though they probably will work in some shotguns.

We have a large stock of Tru Flares. They are designed for 12ga, 2.75" guns with open chokes. $15 per box of 5.

I use these things to light flare stacks. The primer pops the flare out of the case and ignites the flare. The flare is just a cup full of compressed magnesium? powder which propels it's self like a rocket. They burn incredibly hot and will ruin the bore on you shotgun over time..not to mention getting stuck in the choke.
