12ga for a bear

Common? Probably not.

In BC, you can not use a 12ga on moose, but you can on bear. I have shot a blackie with my 870, but it was in an area that was shotgun only and no single projectiles. I used 3" 000buck. For hunting bears, I would use my 350 Rem Mag because I don't like tracking them. But to each their own.

Good luck.

:D

12g works good on bear.....most guys dont go out with a 12g for bear hunting (usually take a rifle) but it is a great choice for around camp or hunting from a stand.

As for moose, never shot one with a 12g but Ill bet it does a fine job with slugs.

you cannot hunt moose in BC with a shotgun

Id take a slug over buckshot for bear

Id take a spear over a 12 gauge though! :D

When I got charged by a blackie 2 years ago I dropped her 10ft away from a Hip shot The slug shatterd the skull and dropped it instantly , I have also used a slug from about 40yrds on a bear , it hit the shoulder really hard and put it down fast.

Nothing like a sabot slug to drop any large animal at close range. I've shot 2 black bears. One with a 12 ga. slug, the other with a ruger deerfield carbine 44 mag. Neither one of them did much twitching after being hit. Both shots were made at less than 40 feet.

Just picture this...a 1 ounce projectile much larger then a .50 caliber traveling at 1800FPS. It packs some serious firepower. It will make a mess of moose and bears, no worries. If I had to pack one gun into the woods, it would be a shotgun. It can take pretty much any animal I choose to hunt.

Yeah, I know. But we have to cut the new guys some slack. They haven't been around long enough for the second, third, forth, fifth and sixth simular postings.:D
