Greetings
Am thinking of giving these bullets a go in my 260 - anyone else try them and have any good/bad to say about them? Will be shooting 800-1500 out of a 26" 1-8 benchmark - bolt rifle... Will start with H4350 and maybe try Varget and H414.
Suggestions??

8 twist should work fine. Your main issue will be seating them without losing too much powder capacity. However if you are single feeding that shouldn't be a problem. As I understand it Hybrids do best seated into or close to the lands, while VLD's like a jump. H4831 or H1000 if you can get enough powder in, are your other choices. Don't think I would go faster than H4350.

Another bullet to consider is the Berger 135 grain Classic Hunter (even if you are target shooting). It will have a thinner jacket, and may not stand up to shooting rapid strings. But if you are not doing that, it should be fine. It has the best Form Factor in the Berger 6.5 bullet line. Prophet River have them in stock.

I don't think that should be an issue with the 130 Hybrid,, I think it is actually called the 130 AR Hybrid OTM Tactical. Designed and optimized for mag length ammo.
I'd be interested as well from anyone who has actually shot this one.

The 135 grain Classic Hunter is only 0.030" longer, and is made short too, so it will magazine feed. It has a better BC and Form Factor than the Tactical. I have the 135 grain and a 140 grain long range on order, but have not shot them yet, so can't comment on actual performance.

You understand only partially right. VLDs are easiest to tune by jamming them. Yes, they will shoot with a jump but it takes some fiddling. And your comment that Hybrids do best when seated into or close to the lands; wasn't the whole purpose surrounding development of the Hybrid to get VLD-like performance from a bullet where a touch or a jam is not possible? You're a bit off the mark here.

Let us know what you find. Those of us stuck with ranges with max 200m can only dream of .8-1.5k without 6+hrs round trip commute.

Yes, Ron. Thank you for validating my points. I've been through that, both in print and in the field. It's clear that you do a lot of reading but in a lot of your 'sharing', your interpretation of what you've read and pass along here seems to be a bit suspect or at least slightly off the mark in some cases. I appreciate that you have a passion for all this but for the sakes of the less experienced, more impressionable readers here, maybe you could tighten up your homework a bit more. Lots of these guys take what they see here as gospel and admitedly, fail to do the homework themselves or are not experienced enough to interpret or predict results effectively, so every bit of factual discussion helps. We can't help those who won't help themselves but none of us need to be adding to the plethora of false, loosely-based, or loosely interpreted information that already exists on the internet.

You earned a full refund for what you paid for my advice.

That is one long winded STFU

Again missing the mark with interpretation! It's not advice that I will be taking (be assured, I will get mine elsewhere) that is my point, it's the regurgitated conjecture that others failing to see through the fog that I'm concerned about. I get that you want to be heard - all I'm asking is that you tighten the screws a bit.

Well back to topic at hand, i purchased 2 boxes of the 130 hybrids and two boxes of the new 130 TMK's - will give them a whirl when weather permits.... Going to start with H4350 41 gr and go up from there, and for ####s and giggles will try Varget at 36gr and go up from there...

One factor I have never considered in the past, and am now factoring into powder choice is the heat potential of the powder. Here is a table of values, which I believe comes from QuickLoad.

In general you find that slower powder has less heat content, and you use more of it, but net-net you come out ahead with the lower heat powders. The impact is on preserving barrel life. Some examples:

Varget - 4040
H4350 - 3990
H4831 - 3870
H1000 - 3630
VV N165 - 3500

As a result my plan for my 6.5 RM with 130-140 grain is to try H1000 and N165. I also have some N135 (3590) on hand to try in place of Varget in my 6BR.
