So I am planning on doing a Holosun 509t using Tacord's co-witness mount.
Any thoughts on reduced profile ...."thin ring aperture" vs "half ring aperture" option?

I’m not sure why everyone wants to co witness their optic with the ghost ring. I took the pic rail off along with the rear site. Mounted my vortex venom on a strike industries mount. Sits nice and low

I was thinking of possibly taking off the rear site block.

Farrowtech has a 1/3 lower cowitness mount for the 509t. Also an option I was considering.

What is the purpose of co-witnessing? I wanted my red dot as low as possible. Took of the ghost rings and pic rail. Mounted my red dot on a strike industries mount. Site nice and low.

I kinda wondered that too.

Unimpeded dot is faster / easier / clearer IMO, only possible upside I can see is if the dot takes a dump at least you can fall back to the co witnessed irons?

This is indeed the whole point of a co-witness. The shooter is well accustomed to the sight picture and if the dot or reticle fails, the sight picture isn't altered much. Shots on target. Hold overs, leads, all instinctive due to the iron sight co-witness.
