130gr in the .30-06

fifty grain bullets fairly common for the .30-06 caliber. fun and fast.

OK, I'll bite. I've never seen 50 grain, 30 cal bullets.

I have tried 30 Mauser or Tokarev 85 grain projectiles in a 308 but they didn't shoot well.

What brand of 50 grain, 30 cal bullets are you using?? I can't even find pistol bullets that light in 30-32 cal.

It would be interesting, please enlighten us.

Maybe Remington 55 grain Accelerators?? Have read they are (were?) made for 30/30, 308 Win and 30-06. A saboted .224" bullet - supposed to have wild and crazy velocity - no experience with them...

They were, and every once in a blue moon you can come across a bag full of them at a gun show. They were once available for hand loaders.

They were OK but not very accurate out of most rifles.

If that's what NHunter meant, he should have been more descriptive.

Several decades ago, when I was still an automotive apprentice, and was feeling the cruel pinch of "want",
I could not afford to purchase a dedicated varmint rifle, so I had to use what I had at the time, a M700
carbine [20" barrel] chambered in the venerable 30-06.
I developed a load which I can still remember well. 130 Speer HP, in a WW case, 55 grains of H4895, sparked
by a CCI 200 primer. It was very accurate, and flirted with 3200 fps. It turned Columbian ground squirrels
into a pink mist. We shot them where they were abundant, generally up higher in the hills, and sometimes
there was still snow in the low areas. The ground squirrels would sometimes venture out onto the snow.
If you shot one there, the results were dramatic!! A large red stain on the snow where the squirrel was, lol.

I am thinking that more than 3000 fps should be available for that 130 grain PPSP, Rhys. I have reached 3000
fps in many 30-06 rifles with the 150 grain bullet. 32-3300 would extend your range somewhat. Dave.

I have a couple boxes of the Speer 130 HP I have been wanting to do the same thing with. I should load some up! I bought them for a wolf load.

i thought i updated the 130gr load development, it settled on 52gr of Varget for now , shot a nice tight group over two days-

having alot of bullets left i will revisit the load an try wring it out a bit more to see what the accuracy does, it was fairly open then tightened right up so i loaded x10 to go hunting one day with.

the woodleighs are splattering pretty good into the summer dry dam bank dirt, the 180s have a bit more shank for comparisons.

field test one soon enough
