I would like to make up some plinking rounds for my 30-30 and came across these 135gr Hitek coated bullets. The Hodgdon site only lists loads for 130gr and 140gr jacketed bullets. Has anyone developed a load for this or have load data for lead bullets of similar weight?

Find a Lyman loading manual, I think #49 is the current issue but any will have what your after. They have scads of lead bullet data for most any caliber you have.

Use any cast bullet loading formulas for coated bullets as a starting point. Any properly coated slug will be able to exceed velocities usually associated to cast slugs without leading the bore so you can carefully increase performance to your preferred level of use.

Great suggestion, I get too used to using the powder manufacturer's online loading resources. I just had a look through the 48th Lyman edition though and sadly they only had load data for 170gr and 173gr cast bullets. I'll see if I can track down a 49th edition and check that.

If I had those bullets, i would try 10 to 15 gr of Unique.

Thanks for the suggestion. I have a half bottle of Unique I can try. Surprising that a relatively fast powder would be used, but I have seen mention of it in other forums for lead plinking loads. I wonder if N320 or HS6 would work? Of the powders I currently have a lot of, those are closest on the burn chart. Looks like more research for me ... lol

I found some load data and worked up some light loads using Bullseye. Lost the first batch due to Chrono errors, but the 2nd and 3rd batch tested well. Will test them next for accuracy, but it's really just cheap plinking fun in the indoor range. I figure the reload cost per round is ~$0.20. Tested some Speer jacketed loads that packed a little more punch too lol
