139 sst 7mm

I can't say for 7mm, but my experience with them in .308 and 6.5mm calibres is that they are a fairly lightly jacketed bullet that expands fast (at moderate 30-06 and 6.5x55 velocities, too). Driving them to 7mm Mag velocities is not something I would think is a good idea for hunting use. They should be excellent on deer in the 7mm-08, though.

I did play with these a little bit in my 7 mag, couldn't get them to group trying about 4 different powders. Then out of curiousity I checked them (just the bullet itself) with my sinclair bullet comparator and there seemed to be quite a difference in length as the comparator measures off the ogive, I believe. There was easily 10 thou difference in length, so there was a difference in the jump into the rifling, I realize that isn't much but it was just a thought I had as to why they wouldn't shoot, it may very well be not the reason, I after all didn't spend that much time working with these. FWIW I couldn't get 165 sst to shoot in my 30-06 either. Both of these rifles are tikkas and it isn't difficult to get them to shoot, strange how they don't like the sst, some guys have great success with them. 139 -140 grainers are definitely not to light in a 7 mag for accurate target shooting, I shoot 140 gr sierra pro hunters behind a light charge of IMR 4064 and they do really well.
