Hey guys, I'm looking to build a "true" M4-type carbine with 14.5" chrome-lined bbl. I'm curious as to the availability of complete 14.5" upper recievers in Canada, apart from Dlask (which I don't think even offers a complete upper) what are my options? If I'm not mistaken the U.S. State Dept. has prohibited the sale of 14.5" AR's to civilians down in the states and has severely restricted exports, demanding end-user certificates to prove the customers LEO status.

Go for a 16", if you really feel that that 1.5" is to much ,get it cut down.

I put in a order for a 14.5" upper with wolverine about 8wks ago,(GREAT people to deal with.) and they haven't had any luck getting them, just like you said, trouble with the state dept.
Ended up changing it to a 16" mid lenght gas system+hand gaurd.only 4-6wks to wait

Good luck to you.

I don't know the ins and outs of the restrictions, but I picked up one of the
LMT 14.5" units from Mark at Questar and it is sweet!

I got the LMT 10.5 MRP upper. Now the big wait is for the lower to arrive.

Someone convince me that 14.5 is better than 16.
Never going to happen....
Just like I prefer a Commander sized 1911 over the full size Government, I
prefer the 'lines' of the 14.5" AR over the 16"...just 'handier'....
But can I accept that the longer barrels have a bit more velocity...absolutetly!
In the end, as with a lot of things, it just comes down to personal preference!

If it was all about performance at the range wouldnt the best pick be a 20 incher anyways?

I got mine in 10.5 just for looks. Last time I checked paper didnt give a #### about fragmentation.

+1. I've got a 20" which is setup similar to the US M16A4 service rifle. Now I crave the so called M4gery :p

Classic infantry work.... Like we use to train in Valcartier...war in the bush

14.5" IMHO is the best compromise for Urban warfare and CQB. Long enough for bullet fragmentation (FMJ) at 100-200 m. and short enough for house clearing (CQB). 10.5" is a cool rifle, but i think that if you need a barrel that short, maybe you would be better with a PDW or SMG in .45. because a 10.5" barrel doesn't give you all the advantages the 5.56mm is capable of offering.

Just my .02

well I think the 10.5 will give you all you need, provided you go with a heavier bullet..

To state a fact, the CF chose 16" over 14.5" when they upgraded the C8, (and continue to trial other 16" variants).

We offer 14.5" and 16" in select fire and semi to Gov/LEO, ~95% choose the 16".

The benefits of extra velocity/extended fragmentation envelope is considered to outweight the 1.5" tradeoff in overall length/handiness. Need shorter? Get a 10.5" (and they do).

Cheers,
DT

hey there is no Stag arms 10.5? Or is there one available?
Yup. Normal offering is the 11.5" Commando. They do custom orders for export. We've got a batch of 10.5" ER Shaw 1/7 at US Chrome right now.

Cheers.
