Hey all.

During my RPAL wait time Ive been doing some AR research as I'm looking to pick one up as my first restricted

I will be using the rifle at the range, but I'm getting it as my dependable rifle and would depend on it if "anything" were to happen.... so i want it to be reliable and somewhat versatile. And if it matters, it will be used in conjunction with a red dot sight.

I realize barrel lengths each have pros and cons, so what do you all recommend? I have it pretty much narrowed down to 14.5" or 16". The first obvious negative is that 14.5" is harder to find, and goes for a premium. As for 16", I was looking at Stag arms as they are fairly priced, and have good reviews.

I hear that Arms east does barrel cutting when the rifle is bought upon request and emailed about the cots of this, but they seem to be too busy to reply to emails, which is understandable depending on the conditions. Could anyone on here be nice enough to answer this for me?

Basically, I'm looking for barrel length suggestions, and if you want to go above and beyond, company suggestions as well :)

Thanks in advance.

I would take anything you can find :p

I don't know if anyone has any full Ar's in stock. maybe the UK made ones. I don't think any US ones have been brought up in the long time. seeing as all 5.56 barrels and receivers are no longer exportable.

But I could be off.

Oh trust me Ive already been bit by the AR bug, if it gets worse from here im in trouble.

Anyone have advice on parting together an AR? Checked questar they got some good stuff. They got the RRA upper with 1:9 twist...

Hows that tactical innovations complete lower?

Any retailer recommendations with the best selection of uppers/lowers?

Hmm never knew that although I highly doubt I will shoot in the US. Does the 14.5 feel noticeably more compact than 16"? Seems like piecing together is the best bet.

Ar

If funds are a concern then you cannot go wrong with the new Norinco CQ 5.56. It has a 14.5 in barrel, 6 position collapsible buttstock, flat-top receiver for easy optics mounting, AND.......everything, everyone else makes for AR's will fit. See my review and pics on the "Norinco M4" thread. $975.00 shipped to your door from Lever Arms. Good Luck and Happy Shopping.

Yeah I thought about the norc, but I want something that will last me a long time. Im sure Norcs are pretty good, but I want to do it right the first time. Im not saying the cq isn't right, but if the step up is worth it, I will do it. Does anyone own both a norc and a "expensive" AR?

Hi,
I read your email and will answer it publicly as I think you received bad info. We cannot cut barrels, it is against the law. Stag Arms 16" models come with 16" barrels.
FWIW: Just about all the pros (LE/MIL) who can choose are buying 16" these days, rather than 14.5.

i have one of the first norincos to ever enter the country and have fired C7 in CF. the only difference is the finish. Norinco is a good choice especially for first time. if you want to customize it you can, everything fits...
Right now i am building another from scratch and pieces i buy here on exchange, trust me not an easy task. G
My opinion get norinco...learn everything there is to know about it then in couple of years build your own.
14.5 rules
have fun

Check the EE. Lots of good stuff in there. I have a 16" AR in there and I saw a few others. Be warned, the EE can and will kill your wallet.
